Hunters POV

This charity event was absolutely boring, nothing was at least slightly interesting. Except for Julia of course.

"Dear why don't you introduce Julia to all the important people?" 'Mom' said looking at me sternly as to say 'do not neglect this offer'. I get it, in her world everything has to be fucking perfect. She sees Julia as a very big catch considering her dad was a important business man, his company is promising. In a way she sees Julia as a way to cover up my imperfections. The son of the founder of 'Roosevelt Industrial Cooperations' (RIC) must be perfect in every fucking way possible.

Maybe she was not exactly perfect but she was in my eyes.

"Of course mother as you wish" I said before abruptly turning around tugging Julia along on my way. She was surprised but didn't question it on the contrary she just followed without saying anything.

We walked towards my fathers second best business partner, only because the first best was not present.

The old and worn out man looked up towards us and gave us a warm and welcoming smile. His posture was not nearly as stiff as everyone else, he looked somehow human.

"Ah hunter what a pleasure, we were just talking about you and your lovely eh.. friend?" He said smirking and winked at me.

"The pleasure is all mine, let me introduce you" I said smiling kindly but stiff towards the group of people who fixed their gazes on us like hawks. "This is my friend Julia Gills, daughter of Martin Gills and Elenor Gills".

"Hello, nice to meet you" she said and shook everyone's hands.

"Well we are certainly very pleased to meet you, may I steel Hunter for a short while"

She nodded and began to mingle her way into conversations with the other guests.

"Hunter I must say I am impressed. Julia Gills... daughter of your fathers number one business partner, if your little something becomes official you two will own quite the impressive company" he said gleaming, I suddenly liked him a lot less. Julia is so much more than that, there is so much more to her than meets the eye and he is here talking to me about something that has nothing to do with the amazing person that she is.

"We are only friends, I am not creating a future with her based on company's and wealth." I said stiffly keeping myself from being to hostile towards the business companion. "If it happens to be more it will be because I love her, not because of anything else"

"Hunter listen here. This..." he gestured around the room not breaking his eye contact with me. "Is not a life meant for love, if you would have been born in any other wealth class whatsoever it would have. But you were born in this class, which means that you must marry someone with the best interests for your company" he now laid his hand on my shoulder squeezing it lightly. "I know you will make the right choice" he said and at that he left and mixed himself into the crowd again.

I felt angered at him, at how he expects me to marry someone out of money and potential like it is actually normal to do that. He was just like my father, and maybe the words angered me because they held a certain amount of truth within them. Maybe I was angered because he said the words about loud, the words that I have ignored so carefully, because I am stubborn like that.

"Hunter are you okay? Let's get some fresh air, okay?" Julia spoke waking me up from the long thought slumber that was consuming every bit of attention I had.

"No I'm fine we should be meeting up with other important people anyways"

The rest of the evening was the same. We followed the same cycle the whole evening, mixing ourself a into various groups, people taking me apart telling me how I could follow my dads legacy best, and leaving to talk to others.

It was now the end of the evening and mother called us over. We were one of the last persons and I knew it was almost time to leave.
She placed her hand gracefully on my shoulder and hooked her arm in my fathers.

"The photographer will be making photos to put in the newspaper and magazines. Would you be so kind to include Julia in the picture? Having Martin and Eleanor's daughter in the picture will intimidate a lot of competition we have."

I grunted and called her over already hating the idea of the press thinking we are anything more than friends, I am simply not good enough for Julia... she deserves so much more than a depressed, druggie with anger issues. Not that the press knows and let it stay that way.

"Julia will you give me the pleasure of standing next to me for the photos." I said arrogantly, already feeling my mothers proud smirk.

"Of course Hunter, it would be a privilege." She fixed her hair that was already flawless to begin with and turned to my mother. "Miss Roosevelt would you be so kind to take a quick look at my makeup? To make sure it is proper of course" she said calmly almost knocking me of my shoes with her polished tone.

My mother looked impressed for a moment before answering.

"Of course dear, your makeup is completely flawless" she said with a small smile.

The photographer was awfully slow and made me almost scold him for being such a slow slug.

He looked deep in thought looking unimpressed at the photos.

"Could you wrap your hand on her waist perhaps?"

I grunted at this and wanted to choke that distasteful slug with his slimy greasy hair. But of course I gave him a small fake smile smile before nodding.

I trapped my arm around her waist as if I was showing Julia off and put my photo generic smile back on.

The pictures were absolutely perfect of course, my step mother would make sure of that.

---

Julia was so exhausted that she was ready fast asleep before her head tucked the pillow. I brought her some extra sheets because she is always cold at night and tucked her in.

I was now wide awake on my bed replaying the conversation my fathers business partner and I had. I replayed every word in my mind, I was stressed out at the choice everybody expected me to make. I knew it was best for me to marry Julia but it was not best for her, she deserves so much more and she is my number one priority.

Fuck this I'm gonna visit Dave for a short while.

I dressed myself in dark grey ripped jeans with a black hoody and black timberlands. I grappled a lot of cash before I climbed out my window.

A short ride with my motor won't do that much harm would it?
