Chapter 6

The Chinese Father & A Bloodstain

"Can I help you?" A young man with brown hair and hazel eyes asked Maria and Arthur. "We were looking for Yao of China. We'd like to in-" Maria was cut by a sharp katana pointed at her throat. "Names." A man said with short jet black hair and brown eyes, narrowed at them. "My name is Arthur Kirkland and this is my assistant Maria Santos." Arthur said eyeing the katana. "Business?" The man asked raising an eyebrow. "Now wait just a second!" Maria said raising her finger. "Why ask for our names when we don't even know yours?!?" The two men stared at her. They whispered in fluent Chinese. "Well?!? What are your names?!!?" Arthur put a hand on her shoulder. "Calm down, Maria! You'll get yourself killed!" he said shaking her shoulder a bit. "What's going on here, aru?!?" A man with long brown hair held together by a red and gold tie and piercing gold eyes asked as he entered the doorway. "These people were trespassing, Baba." The short brown haired man said. "Leon. Kiku. To your rooms, aru." The two boys bowed and walked off. "So you two are the detectives on the Spaniard's case?" The two nodded. "Are you Yao of China?" Maria asked pulling out her notepad and pen. Yao smiled and nodded. "Does that mean you both are here to interview me, aru?" He asked folding his arms. They nodded. "Please follow me, aru." Yao said leading them into the main room. "Please sit, aru." Yao said sitting himself in a red chair. Maria and Arthur sat on two leather chairs and looked up at Yao. "Ask away, aru." He smiled. "What part of China are you from?" Maria asked opening her notepad. "Beijing, China." He said without hesitation. "How many children do you have?" She asked jolting every word down. "5, aru." He said leaning back in his chair. "Names?" Maria asked continuing to write. "Im Soo Yong, Kiku Honda, Leon Xiao, Lien Chung, M...." He trailed off and put his face in his hands. "That was only four." Arthur said not noticing him. Maria hit him lightly and motioned to the upset father. "Yao? Is something wrong?" He looked up at her. "Mei Xiao..." He said softly. "I-Is that another one of your children?" Arthur asked a bit sorry for him. Yao nodded slowly. "She was kidnapped during our family vacation to Spain.." Yao said his voice almost a whisper. "She told me how much she enjoyed the sights and how the Spanish blossoms made her day.. Mei was such a bright and beautiful girl, aru. Then he..." Yao buried his face in his hands once more. "THAT BASTARD DESERVED WHAT HE GOT, ARU!!!" Yao said standing up angrily. Maria quickly stood up and hugged the upset father. "She's in a better place now.. don't be so hard on him or yourself.." Maria spoke softly. Her words sounded soothing and calming. Yao calmed down and apologized repeatedly. "It's fine. This is the last question. When you were last speaking with Antonio of Spain, what happened?" She asked, getting serious once more. "He found this on his bed with a note, aru.." He said. Yao held up a beautiful pink and yellow hairpin decorated with jewels and flowers. "It was Mei's..." He said softly, tears growing in his eyes. Maria continued to hug him before she gasped a bit. "Do you have the note?!?" She asked quickly. "No I think it's still in his ro-" Maria shook his hand vigorously and pulled Arthur up. "Xíe Xíe Mr. Yao!" Maria said smiling. "We'll be back later!" Maria pulled Arthur down the hall and ran into Allistor Lili & Ivan. Ivan and Allistor were holding Lili as if she was a prisoner. "What happened?" Arthur asked. Maria tapped her foot impatiently. "We found the lassie snoopin' around in yer rooms. She has a bloodstain on her dress. Isn't that a wee bit suspicious?" Allistor asked pulling her dress to show Maria and Arthur. Maria gasped and whispered something into her ear. Lili nodded slowly. "She must be a suspect then.." Arthur said raising a brow at the girls. "You three are idiots! S-She has blood on her dress from something else." Maria said hugging Lili. "And what might that be, lassie?" Allistor asked crossing his arms. "She's... Going through what every girl goes through around this age..." Ivan and Allistor blushed from embarrassment. "What was she doing in your room then?" Arthur asked crossing her arms. "Maria and I share a room. I was getting a change of clothes..." Lili blushed. Maria hugged her again. "What were we doing again?" Maria asked herself. "Oh right!" Maria let go of Lili and pulled Arthur down the steps and to the west wing. "In here!"
