Chapter One
"Damian how many times do I have to tell you that Twix isn't a horsie?!" I heard mom screech at my four year old son.
I heard Tobi laugh then the thumping of his little feet run down the hall as my beast of a dog followed right behind him. I waited with my hands on my hips until Tobi and Twix rounded the corner.
They both stopped in their tracks as they looked up at me in horror.
I wanted to laugh but I couldn't show my son I thought him running away from his grandma was funny.
"Hi mommy." Tobi said trying to sound innocent. His bright hazel eyes literally sparkled with hidden mischief.
He was defiantly his father's son.
"Hi baby, have you been behaving for grandma?"
Tobi nodded quickly and grinned as mom turned the corner and froze behind them.
"Leslie sweetie, what are you doing home this early?" She asked as she checked her watch. "You just went to work three hours ago. Are you on your lunch?"
"No I just canceled all my meetings. Michelle's birthday is tomorrow and I wanted to surprise her today by going to Florida to see her." I smiled at mom, then kissed both her and my little rascal on the head. "Has he been behaving?"
"Oh yes, he's the perfect little angel."
Geez I just caught him running from her and she's calling him an angel. When I was little she never let me get away with anything. She spoils my bratty child too much.
"I see."
"So are you leaving today?"
"Yes, it was a last minute thing."
Mom petted Twix thoughtfully. "I thought she was going to Paris? I spoke to Larry before he went off to work and he said she bought tickets to Paris."
Paris? Why there? Then again she has told me she always wanted to go to Paris. And knowing Michelle she never sticks to one plan long. She's so unpredictable.
"Maybe she's going to head to Florida afterwards."
"I'll ask Larry if that was her intentions."
I waved that off. "No mom don't worry about it, I'll change my flight. If I miss her, Tobi and I will just visit the sights. Enjoy a little vacation. Do you want to come?"
Mom shook her head fondly. "Baby I can't just go flying off like that. I have a husband to take care of now. And you know how hungry Larry gets after work. He'll probably start eating the couch pillows if I'm not there to feed him."
I had to laugh at that. He pulled a page from my book.
I love Larry, he's been a riot ever since we met him. He's always been supportive to Jamie and me and he makes mom very happy.
I had never seen her glow like this, not even when dad was alive. I'm just glad she settled down with a great guy like him.
He had great kids. Well at least one if them was great. Tyson was a different story. I only met him once and that was during the wedding.
Apparently we're not welcomed in his little mafia circle. Which Included just him.
It's hard to believe great people like Larry and Michelle are related to a snobbish brat like him.
