[Ty's POV]

I wake up on a couch.

I sit up. My face is sore. I look around.

I am on a reddish couch with a patchwork blanket. A mahogany coffee table sat in front of me like a guardian. I look over to a white leather chair and spot Adam asleep in the chair with my suitcase beside him.

Wait-my suitcase?!

I quietly get up and realize that this isn't Maddie's house. I saw it once before in a Skype call. I carefully pry Adam's fingers off the handle of the suitcase and replace them with my own. I unlock the door. Just a bit more. The door creaks and I freeze as I hear Adam's voice.

"Ty?"

Dang, so close.

"Ty, where are you going?"

I honestly didn't think of that. "Wherever. Not here."

"Really? Your girl is probably looking for you."

"Maddie would check here first."

"She doesn't know where this house is. If you go somewhere else, she'll check there. This is far away from your place."

"Correction: Maddie's place."

He had a thoughtful look on his face. "What would she do when she finds you?"

"You mean, 'if'."

"Judging by her insanity, it is a 'when' not 'if'".

He had a good point. I opened my mouth to protest but he held up his finger, instructing me to remain quiet.

"Just stop fighting, okay?" He put his finger down. "Look, we both know it's safer here."

"No," I said loudly, I was surprised to hear anger in my mouth. "I-"

I heard a drowsy voice from upstairs. "Adam? Is that Ty?"

I blushed. Why am I blushing?!

"Yeah. Just go back to sleep." Adam responded nonchalantly. "You were saying?"

I blushed harder but turned away so Adam wouldn't see.

"Knew it!" He smiled, his cool fading as he laughed hysterically.

"I-"

"Come on, Ty! We're not strangers! Make yourself at home!"

I hesitated, but then walked over knowing I had made my point. He sat on the couch next to me and our hands brushed as he reached for the remote and, simultaneously, my heart started thumping in my throat.
