I dont feel bad about this anymore. Bringing the kids to meet Xander and Jordan. Well, nt as bad as I had felt an hour ago. The kids are all but bouncing off the walls with excitement, and I am too. They have never really had the opportunity to meet anyone since they died. I'm happy for them. "Now Sally and Jake, remember, no acting out, no poltergeisting, no being mean -- " Sally stops me in the middle of my sentence, "We know, we know. Be good, and don't get ourselves in trouble." she says mimicking me, but I didn't really care. "Precisely." I counter, making sure that she gets my point.
"I'm super excited, but Lily, can we at least have some fun?" Jake asks, hopefully. I can't say no to that face he makes when he wants something, so I smile like always and say, "Just answer the questions and then you can have all the fun you want!" I tell him, and his face lights up like it's Christmas morning. I mean, what the heck, the hotel is empty, use it to your advantage. Makes sense right?
"Yay! Thanks, Lily!" Jake says, after he has fully soaked in what I just said. "Really, no strings attached?" Sally says, listening to make sure is no catch. "Well.... I guess not, no catch this time." I laugh, wondering what I could possibly add as a trick to this deal. That child's mind has the craziest of situations. I still love her and Jake to death, from the bottom of my heart, no matter how cheesy that sounds, there is no other way to put it.
The kids are still chatting away to each other about tonight, but I'm kin of zoned out at the moment. All of the things that could go wrong flash into my mind all at once. I cringe at the thoughts that Xander could have lied and actually just said everything he did to make me bring Jake and Sally up. I stop dead in my tracks, once again hesitant to let them meet the guys. I get crazy looks from both Jake and Sally and decide that I was probably just overreacting and continue.
As we near the top of the stairs, I think about warning Jake and Sally one more time about their behavior, but I think they have heard enough of my ranting. We are at the top now and walking towards them, Sally's face lights up and Jake doesn't know what to do with himself. Our night of an almost-empty hotel begins now.
