The silence continues, but the bad feeling in the pit of my stomach begins to fade when I hear some normal talking. I look around the room, but the kids were gone! Then, I remember that I had sent them downstairs to play. My worry quickly dissipates. I am however, still anxious to see Xander when he comes back.
Just as I am thinking about them, here come Sally and Jake. "Hey Lily, we got bored," Jake explains. "Yeah, so we came to see what you were up to," Sally finishes. "Nothing really, just wandering around the lobby," I tell them. They really don't need to know all of the details. "Oh okay." It scares me sometimes, how easily they believe my lies.
We all just stand there for a minute, and then we hear some stomping on the stairs. "What in the --" I don't even finish my sentence before I heard the guys laughing. I chuckle a little bit. They are having a race down the stairs? Looks like Sally and Jake aren't the only kids here with me tonight. I think to myself, smirking.
"What's so funny Lily?" Jake asks me, baffled by my sudden chuckling fit. "Just the guys, having a stair race, acting like children," I said, giving both of them pointed glances when I say the last part. "Hey! Offense taken!" Sally exclaims. "Yeah! Whatever she said!" Jake copies her like a mockingbird. "That was the point," I smile at their little slightly agitated faces.
When Xander and Jordan reach the bottom of the stairs, I looked directly at them and beam a huge smile and my eyes light up like a kid's on Christmas morning. "Xander, you're okay!" I yell with happiness and relief. Before I know what I'm doing, no, actually, I know exactly what I'm doing. I kiss Xander.
