Amara was quite surprised by the walk in closet but she did not complain. She had nothing to complain about. There was more than enough room for the both of them to put away their clothes without getting in the other's way.
Once that task was dealt with, Amara knew that the next thing she had to do was talk to her family.
Nancy had come back to the room to give them the Wi-Fi password and she was well connected. She sat on the bed with her legs crossed in front of her and her computer in front of her. As she waited patiently for Kamdi, her sister to pick up the Skype call, her mind wandered.
What had Galen meant when he called the house the home of the popular five? This house had not been mentioned in the brochure she was given.
Why were the guys so cold and unwelcoming?
And why the hell- despite the school's population- were there only four of them living in one house?
"Amara," a voice yelled with glee catching her off guard and pulling her away from her thoughts. She had not even noticed that her call had been taken. A smile graced Amara's lips as she stared down at her computer screen, happy to see a familiar face.
She was very pretty. Anyone could see that. Her dark skin held no blemishes; her natural black hair was put up in an afro and her red heart shaped lips as well as honey brown eyes were smiling at Amara.
"How are you? Are you in school yet? Have you met any hot white guys yet? Do you like the place? Have you made any new friends?" Amara's thirteen year old sister rattled off question after question. She could never understand how Kamdi did that. She could never understand how Kamdi could keep talking for quite a while without needing breathe.
Kamdi could talk off the ears of just about anyone. Normally, her constant chatter would have irritated Amara a bit but she was just so happy to see her little sister, even though it was via the internet and did not mind the chatter one bit.
"Kam shut up," Amara said not unkindly. She had not been able to get a word in and she also had questions of her own to ask. Kamdi laughed at Amara's request but brought a halt to the questions; she simply smiled at her older sister also happy to see her.
"I'm fine, thanks for asking. Yes, I'm settled in my room now. And yeah, I have met a few hot white guys." Amara informed her sister thinking back to her new housemates. They were rude and unwelcoming- except Galen- but it could not be disputed that the guys were very good looking or according to Kamdi, hot.
"Pictures! I want pictures." Kamdi yelled, her voice startling Amara a bit. Amara rolled her eyes ignoring her sister's request and asked instead, "how are you? And where are mum and dad?"
"Me, I'm good. As for mum and dad, they're working." She answered. Amara could not help the sigh that escaped her lips. She knew it was going to take a while before she could talk to her parents but she at least expected her mother to be home for the day to ask about her.
"Oh! Okay. Tell them I say hello." Amara said to her sister with a smile trying to hide her disappointment. "Okay," Kamdi said with a nod clearly not noticing that her sister was less cheery than she had been when she called.
Amara felt bad.
Her parents were trying to solve a major issue that affected all of them. They were very busy and it was rather selfish of her to think that way. She had to reassure herself that they would call her soon.
