Chapter 6
'Ok the coast is clear.' Carmen was peering around the corner looking out for anyone of potential threat to Hopper or our group.
Quickly we made our way to the main school building before stoping to plan our actions.
We checked to make sure no one was listening before James broke the silence. 'Ok so what are we actually going to do with Hopper?'
'Um... good point James, Rose, what are we going to do with a dying mouse?' both James and Carmen were now staring at me.
'Well, we could let him go in the garden.' James was the first to suggest an idea.
I shook my head. 'No, that won't work when I put him in the garden the first time he was found by that group, I can't risk him being found again.'
'Well what about behind the sports equipment shed? no one ever goes behind there.'
'No, to many magpies, if they spot a wounded mouse it would be like a field trip to a free sushi train.'
'Yum, sushi.' James was staring off into space at the mention of sushi.
'Wait, Rose, what if you took him home? and James wipe the drool of your chin it's Sooo not attractive.'
'Hey, great idea Carmen! ... one problem, mum would freak if I brought a mouse home no mater how injured it was, what about your house Carmen?'
'Nah not gonna work, my dog would try to bite it, and considering its state I don't think that would help mr Hopper.'
'I could take him,'
I'd forgotten about James for a second.
'I mean mum wouldn't mind and I could keep Hopper in my room.'
'Ok, it's settled, James you'll take Hopper home with you and make sure he's safe.'
'Um Rose, how exactly are we going to get Hopper to James' house?'
Damn I hadn't thought of that, now what? James couldn't just carry a live mouse on a bus in his hands!
'Shoot. well we could-'
Suddenly James had his hand clamped over Carmen's mouth.
'James what in the-.' 'Shh!'
Now sitting with James covering both our mouths we listened anxiously as the sound of footsteps grew louder and closer.
