Chapter 16
We all sat in front of the grave staring at the beauty we had created.
'Ok who wants to go first, James?'
James looked at me before shuffling closer to Hopper and pushing one of the piles of dirt into the hole.
'See ya Hopper.'
Both James and I stared at Carmen.
'What? I'll go next so Rose can spend more time and make it look pretty.'
'Thanks Carmen.'
Carmen nodded before pushing her pile into the grave over where Hopper lay.
I smiled at Carmen and moved towards the grave.
'Hey Rose, Carmen and I are gonna give you some time alone, ok?'
'Ok yeah thanks guys.'
I watched them walk away before slowly pushing the final pile of dirt over what was no longer a hole.
I felt tears in the corner of my eyes but continued to gently pat down the soil.
I was now crying my eyes out as I placed each of the roses on top of the grave and planted the cross just above where Hopper was.
'Hey Rose, oh! that looks cool!'
'Thanks Carmen, uh James?'
James was in my face with a tissue wiping my tears, uh just a little awkward having someone else wipe away your tears but having him so close to me was not.
'You were crying, I don't like it when you cry.'
'O...k... well then, now that's over with the reason we left, Taa daa!'
Carmen was holding a small piece of bark with the words 'R.I.P Hopper Fuzz' and on the back 'you will be missed.
I must have looked really unattractive as I was now pouring my eyes out and trying to smile.
'Thank you both soo much!'
I pulled them both into a hug before planting the bark behind the cross.
It was a beautiful way to say goodbye to a friend.
