"I'm surprised you called me."
Chris Argent arrived at the Hospital after Melissa sends him an urgent call to come and help him with a...situation. She explains to him the best way she could. He looks into the morgue, seeing a few bodies covered up with the sheets, one rolled out of the cold storage and one on the exam table, he assumes that was the dead hellhound.
Melissa sighs softly, relieved to see him here with her. She wasn't sure if she could ever handle being alone in the morgue with that body again.
"Well, someone had to call someone." She says, sarcastically as she gives him a double meaning in her words that sent a guilty look in his eyes as he nods and turns to face her.
Before he could apologize, she cuts him off, "I need a tissue sample from a body. I was hoping you would go in there and get it for me." She holds out a scalpel for him.
Chris frowns at her words, he didn't understand why she was asking him this. She's a nurse, it's just a dead body. She has dealt with dozens of dead bodies. What makes this one so different? He looks back at the morgue, then back to her.
"It's a dead body? Right?" He asks.
She nods, not sure how to describe it to him, "Mostly." She mutters.
"Mostly?" Chris was confused, was it dead or not? He takes the scalpel and waits for her to answer him.
"Maybe you should just go see for yourself."
Chris still frowns, wondering. He could see so much fear she had about the morgue. He has seen Melissa scared before, but this...this was...more.
He sighs and turns to head into the morgue. As soon as the double doors shut, he was hit by a wave of fear. It was such an intense feeling. He couldn't explain it. He looks back and sees Melissa. She could see the fear in his eyes. The same fear she felt when she was in there. She nods at him, giving him a look that said, 'you see what I mean?' Chris nods and turns back to the body and begins to walk towards it. The fear in his gut grew as he walked closer and closer.
Once he stood before the body, he lets out a shuddering breath and place the scalpel down on the table next to him, taking off his jacket. Sweat was building up. Trickling down his scalp as the fear continued to grow and become stronger. He takes the scalpel and wipes the sweat off his head. Taking a deep breath, Chris reaches out to use the blade to catch a sample for Melissa, but his hands begin to shake violently as the fear became too intense for him to handle. He was ready to just curl up into a corner and whimper like a lost child. He snatches his hand away and takes another deep breath, leaning again to get the sample and get out of there.
Suddenly, the sound of raspy breathing was made from the other body. The hellhound body that was wrapped up in tape and plastic. Shuddering in absolute fear, Chris looks over and could have sworn he saw the plastic cover moving. And it did. It was moving, but it wasn't possible.
Melissa moves away from the doors as Chris burst out of the morgue, breathing heavily. As soon as he was out of that room, the fear was gone. Like a flaming candle in the wind. Puffing out with the breeze.
"That's not just a dead body." Chris' voice waivers as his body still shakes.
Melissa nods, "You felt it, too, didn't you?"
"Yeah."
"Fear?"
Shuddering still, Chris' lips begin to shake, "Terror."
