The new phone Adam bought me a week ago buzzes. I shift Liberty onto my other hip and grab it from my back pocket. Its from Adam.
Come to the office- we have a surprise for you!
Okay.
Jess will be there in two minutes to pick you up.
What could it be?
Adams POV
Bzzt Bzzt
I check my phone. Its Independence.
Almost there
"She's almost here!" I announce. Barney finishes hanging up a banner. Jin lights the candles on the cake. I squeeze Alesa's hand.
The door opens.
Independences POV
My hand slowly slips off the handle. I hear Jess comes in with Liberty and mason, but the sounds don't register in my mind. Neither do the shouts 'Happy Adoption Day'
I can't stop staring at the banner. My eyes flick to Adam and Alesa. Alesa nods and gives a tiny laugh.
I run as fast as I can to them and catch them both in a tight hug, catching them off guard.
I'm never letting go.
