Grammar

In Sweden it is easy to change a statement into a question.

Example:

Swedish- Du bor i Stockholm. - Bor du i Stockholm?

English- You live in Stockholm. - Do you live in Stockholm?

Personal Pronouns

Jag- I (don't pronounce the g)

Du- you

Han- he

Hon- she

De- they (pronounced 'dom')

Vi- we

Ni- you (polite form of you)

Verbs

There are three categories of verbs in the Swedish language. The first class of Swedish verbs end in -a.

Example:

Swedish- Tala - jag talar

English- to speak - I speak

The second class if Swedish verbs are the ones who's stem ends in -a and -er

Example:

Swedish- komm - komma- vi kommer

English- the stem - to come- we come

The third class includes verbs that end in vowels other than a.

Example:

Swedish- bo - de bor

English- to live - they live

In future vocab lists, verbs will appear in their basic form with a slash after the stem (main verb)

Negative

To make a sentence negative in Sweden you just add inte after the verb.

Example:

Swedish: Kommer du från Sverige?

Nej, jag kommer inte från Sverige.

Varifrån kommer du?

Jag kommer från America.

English- Do you come from Sweden?

No, I don't come from Sweden.

Where do you come from?

I come from America.

More sentences:

Swedish- Hon talar inte engelska.

English- She doesn't speak english.

Swedish- Ve bon inte i New York.

English- We don't live in New York.
