Grammar

Possession

In English we add 's (Johnny's apple) but in Swedish they add a with no apostrophe.

Example:

Swedish- Annes man äter lunch nu.

English- Anne' husband is eating lunch richt now.

Swedish- Var är Gunnars penna?

English- Where is Gunnar's pen?

Swedish- Vems hus är det?

English- Who's house is this?

Swedish- Pojkens bok är inte här.

English- The boy's book isn't here.

If a word ends in s, z, or x nothing is added.

Possessive Pronouns

Swedish possessive pronouns are a bit more complicated than English ones. Possessive pronouns have three forms; one for en- words, one for ett- words, and one for plural words.

Another thing, the word sin (ett form sitt) is used in place of either hans, hennes, or deras if the possessive pronoun is referring back to the subject.
