You see, Shiro was Keith's anchor, the reason he had even joined the Garrison in the first place.

He was Keith's restraint in front of the instructors, and without him, well, Keith wasn't the instructors' favorite anymore, to say the least.

The next few weeks after the Kerberos depart, Iverson completely unraveled in regards to Keith. Keith did likewise.

Keith refused to salute to him like he was a god. He mouthed off to the other students and instructors. He skipped class and still stayed at the top of the class.

At one point, a few weeks after the Kerberos launch, Iverson had reached his breaking point.

Keith would soon reach his own breaking point.

It was when he was  in his classroom, which all had large screens in them for announcements and emergency news. Today would be one of the rare days for the screens' second use.

There was no warning, it just flashed on, nearly making Keith and half the kids fall out of their chairs. By the time they saw it was only a news screen, the anchor already explained the story.

"It seems that the Galaxy Garrison's Kerberos mission was lost," the anchor reported. Keith froze, his pencil falling in slow motion before clattering on the floor loudly amidst the students' unusual silence.

Keith found himself trembling as Shiro, Matt and Sam's pictures were displayed. Lance seemed just as shook as Keith. Hunk had to step out, he was crying so hard.

But Keith, he could only just stay there and listen to the news as it shredded his heart. He couldn't move. He couldn't think. He couldn't breathe. Half of him was gone, and now, would never return.

"Reasons for the men's disappearances are still being determined," the anchor added. "But evidence from the mission surveillance tapes suggests that it was pilot error--"

Keith jerked up, slamming his fist into the center, right at the anchorman's jaw. Of course the anchorman continued without a second thought, since it was only TV.

A web of cracks emerged under Keith's fist. The instructor and the rest of the class only stared at him in fearful astonishment.

"It wasn't pilot error," Keith whispered, before his voice erupted. "It wasn't him! He can't be gone!!"

Lance started to stand, but the instructor motioned him back in his seat, and grabbed Keith's arm tightly.

Keith instinctively jerked away. The teacher took a step back. The livid purple eyes had never held such pain or fury in them before, and frightened anyone who looked at them.

Keith didn't know if the instructor had called him, or if he had a sixth sense for detecting Keith's outbursts. Iverson was soon in the room, dragging Keith out and towards his room. He tossed the teen in, not caring that the emo hit the floor with a hard thud.

He was rid of him. He had enough reason to expel him, even with his talent.

"Pack your bags, Kogane," Iverson ordered triumphantly. "You're through."

Iverson promptly stepped out, the door sliding closed, leaving Keith alone in the dark room. Keith heard Iverson stomp away down the metal corridor.

He squeezed his eyes shut to stop the tears, and slammed his fists down, his anger filled scream echoing in the darkness.
