Chapter Seven

Jennie stands across from a mirror, staring at her reflection in a bridal gown. This is really happening. "You are such baby." She says, making a face at the dress. "I don't like this one."

"Let me go find one." Vinny says, walking out of the room. He returns with a dress hanging over his shoulder. "Try it on." He hands it to her, sitting back down. She looks at him before turning to the dressing room.

She swings open the door, grinning at them. "Yes!" She says, spinning. "This is perfect!" Vinny hops up and wraps his arms around her, tears streaming down his face.

"My little sister is getting married." He smiles, kissing her forehead.

When they get home, Ryan's gone. All of his stuff is gone, The couch has been vacuumed, the blankets washed and folded up, the coffee table cleaned off, like Ryan Sitkowski never lived here. Vinny frowns, setting his wallet and keys down. "Ryan?" He calls, obviously not getting a response. Jennie sinks down on the couch, her eyes trained on the floor. Her brother grabs his phone, calling him but not getting an answer.

Jennie stands and slowly goes to her room, her feet dragging against the floor. She throws herself on her bed, her face hitting a t shirt that isn't hers. She sits up, the fabric in her hands as she inspects it, Ryan's beloved Slipknot shirt with a note taped on it.

Jennie,

I'm sorry about everything. I'm sorry that I messed with your relationship. I'm sorry that I made you mad. I left because I really have no reason to be there anymore, you're getting married. Married to Chris and not me. I love you, Jennie. It hurts to say that to you in this way but I wanted you to have a clean slate with Chris and Vinny. I regret nothing but leaving you. I'm so sorry, Jen.

She has tears running down her face, the note clutched to her chest. Jennie holds the shirt to her face as she cries, needing one of Ryan Shitkowski's infamous hugs. She crawls under the sheets, the shirt in her arms as she lays, feeling numb all over.
--
Three more sleepless weeks go by and still nothing from ryan. He's probably in California by now. Jennie sighs, still laying in bed as Vinny tries to talk to her, getting ignored. He presses a kiss to her head before leaving for work.

Chris sighs as he goes to her room, pulling her up by her arms, wrapping his arms around her skinny body. She sits lifeless, letting Chris do this, her head on his shoulder as her arms lay at her side. He rubs her back and at that moment, that's when she starts crying. "I'm sorry." She cries, finally hugging him back.

"For what? You didn't do anything wrong." He whispers, rubbing her back still. "I love you." He smiles at her, kissing her forehead. "And I always will." She nods, wiping her face, only time will tell if she's still in love with him.

--
Vinny sits on the couch, watching the office with a beer in his hand. "Dude, something's wrong with Jennie." Chris says, breathing heavily after running to the living room.

"What?"

"She's not waking up- just c'mon!" He shouts, running back to her room.

Not again. This isn't happening again. Vinny thinks, shoving Chris away to get to his sister. "Dammit Jennifer!" He shouts, scooping her up and carrying her to his car. He hits his steering wheel before speeding off to the hospital.
--
Vinny paces in the waiting room as Chris sits behind him. The taller man has tears running down his face as he holds his head in his hands. "This is all my fault." He mumbles.

"No. No it's not. It's her fucking fault for being an idiot. It's her fault for not fucking talking to anyone." He hisses.

"Dude, don't be so harsh." He says.

"Fuck off, Chris." He snaps, "you don't fucking get it!" Chris stands, towering over Vinny, grabbing him by the front of his shirt.

"You do not talk about her like that." He says lowly. A security guard starts toward them. "She is my fucking fiancé." He throws him back, heading outside to get some air. Vinny sits in a chair in the corner, ignoring everyone's looks.

A nurse calls Chris back first, leading him to Jennies room. He sits next to her, brushing the hair from her beautiful face, sighing. She opens her eyes slowly, feeling miserable.
"Hey you." He smiles weakly.

"Hi." She croaks out, no emotion on her face. "How mad is Vinny?" She asks weakly, having your stomach pumped the night before takes a toll on your body.

"Lets not talk about him right now." He says softly, laying next to her. "Why did you do it?" He strokes her hair.

"Because I'm tired of this. I'm tired of feeling like Ryan leaving is my fault." She whispers, rubbing her eyes.  He's too zoned out to listen. "I'm sorry, Chris." She whimpers, looking up at him.

"I'm just glad you're alive." He says softly, kissing the side of her head slowly. She sighs, cuddling into his side. He rubs her back, watching her eyes close.
--
Vinny stands looking out the window, his shirt seeming baggier as he leans against the windowsill. A security guard had to escort him to his sisters room once Chris was into the waiting room. He glances over at Jennie, his eyebrows furrowed.  Almost as if she could feel his eyes on her, Jennie stirs awake, the bags under her eyes darker. "Hey." She whispers.

"Hey. How are you feeling?" He says, not really caring about the answer. She shrugs and that's when he lets it all out. "What the hell is wrong with you!" He shouts, angry tears in his eyes. "You don't fucking talk to me and now youre in the fucking hospital again! Why don't you talk to me!?" She just lets him yell, not really paying any attention to him. "You're so fucking irresponsible!"

"Get out." She says, her voice quiet.

Vinny stops to look at her. "What?"

"Get out!" She says louder, "Get out, get out, get out!" A nurse comes rushing in when he hears yelling. "Get him out of here." He looks at her brother.

"Do I need to call security or can you handle it yourself?" He asks, crossing his arms.

"I can fucking do it." He snaps. "Find a new place to stay." Vinny snaps at Jennie, exiting.

"Do you need anything?" The male nurse asks gently, trying to stay quiet. She shakes her head, wanting to be alone.
--
One Jennie's discharge day, Chris is the only one there for her. He helps her out to the car, wanting her to take it slow because of the earlier circumstances. She hasn't told him what happened between her and Vinny yet. "Can I stay with you for a little bit?" She asks softly.

"Of course you can, why would you ask that?" She shrugs, "Want me to stop at your place so you can get some stuff?" She nods, trying to force the unwanted tears back. He turns and starts to drive.
