"You're insane!" , my 'father' walked paced around in my room. "How could you bring that thing back in here? After all she's done and After all our hard work to get you on the throne you just want to let it go out the window because you're a hormonal teenager?"
He stopped and held my shoulders. Forcing me to look into his swirling green irises. , "you're not in love Chadmond. You're a kid. This is a crush , you will grow out of it. Then you'll regret letting some monster come in between you and your birthright"
I ignored his rant and kept packing my clothes into the huge suitcase.
"If you leave this castle Chadmond , I will disown you as a son"
His words made me freeze in my tracks. Absorbing the essence and meaning of the words he had just carelessly uttered.
"Have you ever even been my 'father' ,father?" I slammed the suitcase shut and proceeded to zip it up, "it's always been Anthony, the golden boy.. your perfect son. I WAS THE MISTAKE 'DAD' , so why care now?" I dragged the suitcase out of my room noisily. Leaving him stunned and frozen in my room.
....
"So you want to leave? My son" the white haired lady I had come to know as my mother sat me down on a couch in her living room."do you understand the implications of that?"
"Yes mom" ,
she smiled sadly. A single tear rolling down her chocolate cheek. "Come here"
She hugged me tightly , squeezing the breath out of my lungs. Then again I didn't mind because I could smell the sweet jasmine scent that resonated from her curly hair.
"You know I will always love you Chadmond. " she held my jaw and looked into my face scanning my features . " you can come back to me anytime. Anytime you want just pack your backs and come back to me. You can bring Nina too"
"Thanks mom" I left her room and continued my long walk to the car , the only thing left was to fetch Nina.
...
"But we haven't spoken to the elders yet. Maybe they will let me stay."
"Nina, they won't. I've packed my stuff ... pack yours and let's get out of here before it's too late. Please"
"Okay" I watched her as she picked the simple clothes from her extensive wardrobe.
She moved slowly occasionally brushing her fingertips against the smooth expensive fabrics that she wasn't taking along.
"You know we can sell those for money, take them" I picked an expensive brown ball gown and folded it into her suitcase. "And take the jewelry, we don't have to sell those" I picked up her entire jewelry box and put it inside the box.
"You know, when I first came here I thought I would end up staying here" she smiled at me. "Of course that was before all this happened and now... I just want to have something normal , something to remind me that I'm not completely nuts."
"Weeellll" I laughed at her, "I can't certify that you're not nuts. But I can certify that you're a grave young woman and I'm glad to have found you again"
She dropped the golden top into the suitcase and turned towards me wrapping her slender arms around my neck.
"I hate to admit it.." she smiled, "but I've gotta say it sooner or later"
"Shh" I placed a finger over her mouth. "I don't know exactly what you were going to say... but I have a general idea and I want to say it first."
I wrapped my arms around her waist , pulling her closer to me. "I love you Nina Nolen, now don't laugh ... you've bruised my ego enough. "
She giggled at me , "I love you too Chadmond" she pecked me on the lips,
"Even though you're a lying ,egotistical , proud and annoying douche bag ... I love you"
I placed a hand on my heart in mock hurt. "Was that supposed to be a compliment?"
"That's the nicest I could get when describing your character" she laughed while I blinked at her.
"Just kidding" she laughed again
......
"So you are the Nina" , mother smiled lovingly at Nina while we packed the suitcases into my car.
"Yes please" she bowed at her . Those princess lessons paid off after all.
"Take care of my son for me. I know he can be an idiot sometimes but he's good at heart . Don't let him destroy himself in his own self created drama." I feel betrayed.
"Mom!" I glared at her in shock while she laughed with Nina at my expense. Sad we were leaving they would have gotten along very well.
"You weren't leaving without us were you?" I heard a familiar voice shout right before the sound of suitcase tires spread through the air.
"Roderick what are you doing?" I bro hugged my best friend as he and Dilly moved their suitcases towards the medium sized car.
"You didn't think I would leave you to go anywhere without me did you?" He patted me on the back before pulling Dilly to his side and kissing her on the forehead."plus Dilly wouldn't stay here without Nina."
The two girls giggled at each other before entering the car .
..
"Hurry up dude , are you practically waiting till the guards come with pitchforks for Nina?" Roderick quarried .
"Shut up dude I'm concentrating " I narrowed my eyes at the figure who was standing in the balcony watching us prepare to leave. No one seemed to have noticed him apart from me.
He had seen me watching him and it didn't faze him in the littlest bit.he narrowed his steel grey eyes at me, they were practically glowing from the contrast against his brown skin. But how on earth was he alive?
How did he survive having his neck snapped...
"Dude, hurry up! Jeez" Roderick would have kept quiet if he knew what I was seeing, if only I could tell them what I was seeing. If only they could convince me that I wasn't going mad, that I wasn't seeing a ghost.
I sparked the car and drove out of the compound . "Woohoo!" Dilly shouted from the backseat
Sadly, I couldn't share in their happiness since my mind was clouded with one thing.. and one thing alone.
