She had to give him credit; Theo didn’t groan or roll his eyes when his mother asked him to drive her to the hospital. In fact he was a perfect gentleman all the way there.
Of course that could be because he didn’t say one word to her.
Although he kept looking at her out of the corner of his eye when he thought she wasn’t looking. Evie bet it was just to make sure that her cheek wasn’t getting blood on his expensive car. When they finally arrived at the hospital he ran around to her side of the car so he could help her out; her legs still a little shaky after what had happened.
Evie expected him to let go and move forward but instead he snaked his arm around her waist, his hand resting above her hip, and led her into the building. Normally Evie would have protested but as they moved forward she found she was actually relying on him for support. Trapped next to his firm warm body she felt herself relax long enough to observe the handsome man holding her.
Theo’s expensive tux was now wrinkled and his hair was sticking up in all directions like he had run his hands through it multiple times; a worried look replaced his usual charming smile.
“Are you okay?” she asked.
“I’m fine. You’re the one with the head wound.” He calmly replied, sounding like his mind was elsewhere.
“It really doesn’t hurt that bad…” she told him, well aware of the fact that he probably wasn’t listening to her anymore. His eyes were quickly roaming the hallways probably looking for where he should take her so he could get rid of her.
As they reached the emergency desk the sleep deprived nurse on call did a double take as they walked up.
“You’re Theo Rogan…” she whispered her tired eyes widening in shock. She looked young enough that her reaction to Theo wasn’t completely ridiculous. There were very few women who could resist his good looks. The fact that he looked a lot older than he was only helped to widen his fan base.
“Yes, I believe that is my name.” he replied impatiently, “My friend here got hurt and she needs medical attention immediately. Preferably the best that you have here, money is no object.”
“Of –Of course Mr. Rogan…” She stood there looking at him for a heartbeat longer before she jumped into action, eager to please him.
“Just take her into the room to your right and one of our doctors will be with you in a moment.” Turning around the nurse took off down the hall almost running into a couple of patients that were roaming the halls for exercise.
Immediately taking her to the room the nurse suggested, Theo helped her onto the examination table, his hands lingering on her waist before he pulled away.
She could feel the loss of his warm touch, the events of that night hitting her like the cool breeze she could now feel circulating the room. Every thought she had been avoiding came back to her all at once.
“Is there a mirror in here?” Evie asked while rubbing her arms to generate warmth. She wanted to finally see what had been done to her; the paramedics hadn’t had one on them back at the house.
Part of her was afraid to find out what the strange man had done but another part of her was glad that nothing worse had happened.
If Theo hadn’t shown up when he did… Evie didn’t even want to think about it.
“No there is no mirror, but the doctor will probably have one when he arrives or we can ask that lovely nurse to go get one for you.”
“I’m sure she would do just about anything for you.” Evie did her best to mimic the slightly hysterical nurse’s voice, “Of – Of course Mr. Rogan …” she finished, laughing at Theo’s surprise.
