QOTC- do y'all want to see Charlotte's point of view or do you want me to stick with Xander's for a while?

(four days later)

"Are the cuts healing okay?" I ask my mate as she takes a seat on the bathroom counter near the sink. She nods and lets me unwrap the bandage on her leg, not opening her mouth to say anything.

Just one day after having my mom with her and Blake in the house, Charlotte showed significant improvement. She woke up the next day with a lot more energy than she usually had and she didn't look as sick as she did before. My mom came back the next day to help out and everything thought that things were going uphill since Charlotte was starting to heal and we made some progress with figuring out who the intruders were.

Unfortunately, things changed yesterday when our home was attacked again. The hidden cameras I set up around the outside of the house confirmed what Charlotte said about two masked figures making eye contact and waving at her before attacking. They threw a rock at the window before she could call for help and the shattered glass ended up flying in the direction of my mate. She was quick and was able to step a couple feet away, but shards of glass still managed to cut her.

The cameras also showed why the guards I assigned to the house didn't do anything. About two minutes before Charlotte saw the masked figures, the guards in the front of the house did something weird. They both relaxed their positions and went slack. When I talked to them about what happened, they said that they were completely aware of everything going on but were unable to move. One of them said they tried to mind-link everyone about what was happening, but that he was unable to.

"Do these hurt?" I look at the little cuts and scratches on her leg, desperately wishing that I was there to stop this from happening. It makes both my wolf and I furious since it's our job to keep intruders out of our territory, but we've also been failing to protect our mate too. "Sweetheart?"

I look up at her and realize that she wasn't paying attention. "Can... Can you bring Blake in here, please?" she asks, staring at the crib where our baby is currently laying.

"Yeah." I reply, briefly leaving the bathroom to go get Blake. He's startled at first and tries to hold onto one of his little pillows, but relaxes as I walk back over to Charlotte.

"Thank you." she whispers, visibly less tense now that all of us are closer together.

Going back to what I was doing before, I repeat my earlier question, "Do these hurt?"

"It's not that bad." she quietly answers.

"How about your arm?"

"Those healed."

It was mainly her right side that was impacted the most by the glass, so any scratches she might've received to her left side have healed already. After wrapping up her leg again, I stand up and look at Charlotte's face with a frown. Besides the cut on her cheek from the glass, I can tell that she isn't happy just by looking at her eyes.

The look in her eyes used to be just tired, now she looks unhappy.

"Is your back okay?"

"No."

Since she tried turning around and getting out of the way, the larger pieces of glass hit her backside and ended up cutting pretty deep. "Can you lift your shirt for me, sweetheart?" I softly ask, needing to tend to her wounds with the stuff Dr. Kale gave me. "I'll put a new bandage on it once I'm done."
