"Miss Amber, please report to the office," the intercom muffled. The teacher let me go and I grabbed my books as fast as I possibly could. When I arrived at his office, I was caught by surprise. "Come sit."
I seated myself in a plastic chair in front of his wooden desk, which was huge. A calendar, a computer, and multiple papers sat, sprawled across his desk. His hand opened to my own and timidly, I shook his hand.
"Amber, I'm Principal Lucas. How have your classes been?"
I chuckled a bit. "They are amazing but finding them is the hard part." A smile stretched across both our faces.
"Well, Amber. There is some business we need to take care of."
I gave him a confused look and questioned him. "What? Did I do something wrong?"
"No, Nia."
My dark eyes widened. He knew my name. He knew my identity. He knew who I was. "What- you- know-"
"Yes, Nia. I know who you are. It is my honor to be helping the princess."
"Wow. I thought no one knew."
He nodded. "Nia, your father personally asked me to make sure you are safe. I want to make sure you are secret but learn something at the same time."
A deep breath flooded out of me. "Oh, thank you, Principal Lucas. You have no idea how nice it is that I'm not the only one who knows."
"It is my honor." He smiled and I walked out reassured that I had at least one person to talk to, even if it was the school principal.>>>>>
I stepped up to the isle of the bus and rushed to my seat next to Micah. "Hey," I said.
"Hey."
Then there was a dead silence between us. And it was like that for about five minutes until he began a casual conversation with me. "So, why were you called to the office? Trouble?"
"No. Of course not. I- it was just to meet him since I didn't before the school year started."
He nodded. "People thought there was something weird going on with you. I mean, seriously. The time you showed up was pretty awful. Right after the princess died. Gossip rises easily in our school."
Yeah. Super easy. Right as I meet people, I already have to be extra careful. There are so many suspicions.
"Yeah." He didn't say any more to me and I plugged my MP3 player . The first song was "Mercy" by Shawn Mendes. I just wish people would have more mercy in this town for a new girl.
