I sat down in my seat on the bus and thought hard about how the world couldn't get any better. I was so caught up in the moment, that I didn't even realize that Micah had already said hello to me.
"Hello, Amber. Earth to Amber. Hello?"
"Sorry." I blinked out of my fantasies. "So, how's life?"
The conversation had gone back to its normal ritual that we had almost every morning now. "Life is good. How's yours?"
          "Okay."
"Are you sure? You were in a trance for, like, five minutes this morning."
"Okay, I admit. I am so happy today. I woke up this morning and just was so happy."
Micah gave me the weirdest look as the bus pulled up to the curb of the school. "Well, then. Have a good day,  Amber!"
I exited the bus and called back at him. "You, too, Micah!"
But the happiness that I had didn't carry into school.

"Amber, please solve the equation that is on the board. What is the value of x when 3(4+5x) is equal to 6(2-8x)?"
          "The answer is 8."
"Amber, I'm not sure if you get the concept. That answer is not even close. Let's do a lifeline. . . Jaden, can you solve for x?"
The sounds were drown out of my ears.Thunder by Imagine Dragons, played over and over in my head. The words pounded at my brain, but I didn't have any clue what they meant.
The bell rang and I became part of the crowd. My classmates and I all flooded out of the room and into the big, tiled hallway. After grabbing my large stack of books for homework, I walked into the rain that was pouring. "Amber."
Instantly, I recognized the voice as Micah's. "Micah, " I called out into the raining abyss. I looked to my left and saw him standing there, his clothes drenched in water.
          "Come on!"
And then I heard the thunder.
