Chapter 1 - Can't Remember, Can't Forget

*********************

"Soraru!"

"What?!"

"Quit moving your butt!"

"I cant! I'm too excited!"

I was jumping up and down my seat. Today is the day me and Lon are finally going back to Japan.

"Look! Our hometown looks more livelier than before!" I pointed out through the airplane's window.

"How long has it been?" Lon asked, he seemed like he was just questioning himself so I didn't answer.

Hm... How long has it been since our last visit here?

"Do you think they still remember me? And... they still remember you?" Lon asked again.

I just took a quick glance at Lon and looked over the airplane's window again.

See, me and Lon made some great friends during our last summer visit. He joined a basketball club and I joined a swimming club. We even decided to enter middle school here but we were not permitted by our father. We both had to stay in South Carolinas.

But during Christmas break, my dad had a business problem and he's sending me over to Japan till he's done dealing with it. And Lon was meant to transfer here next school year, but when his father knew that my father was sending me here too, they agreed we both go. Lon will be living with his Grandma and I'll be living alone, but Lon usually hangs out in my place so it's a win-win. My dad and his dad are close mates. That's why me and Lon are too.

"Good evening everyone, this is your captain speaking, we'll be landing in a minute now so please fasten your seat belts." The captain announced.

"O my gosh o my gosh o my gosh o my gosh o my gosh o my gosh o my gosh!" I screamed quietly.

"You better control your general excitement, Ru, or you'll end up sleeping late and waking up late for school tomorrow." Lon said.

"No Lon, I'm too excited for tomorrow that I'll end up wearing my uniform all ready for school at 4:30 am!" I said.

- The next morning

"9:21 AM!!?!?!!!!!?!??!!??????!" GOD DAMN IT.

I arrived at school just when the bell for lunch break rang. Great. I immediately started to look for Lon.

Light blond hair with blue eyes light blond hair with blue eyes light blond hair with blue eyes where in the world are you?!

Hold up. Back in Carolinas, me, Lon, & all of our friends would have our lunch outdoors.

I ran outside as fast as I could and started to look for him all over the place. Fifteen minutes later, I still couldn't find him because this school is huge as fuuuuuuuuuuuu-

Then, finally, I spotted him, eating lunch with three other people. I immediately sprinted towards him and grabbed his shoulders, making him face me.

"Here you are! I've been looking everywhere for-" Wait. This isn't Lon. Ohmygosh.

"Hiiii, can I help you?" The guy in front of me asked cheerfully.

My face was making a O-crap-I-didn't-know-there-were-other-blond-haired-people-in-this-school-I-mean-I-do-know-but-I-didn't-think-it-through-since-I-got-tired-with-all-the-running-I'm-sorry expression.

But seconds later, my faced beamed with sunshine after I analyzed each of their faces.

Then Mako suddenly asked, "Sorry, but do we know you?"

*********

I slammed the doors to the rooftop open.

"LooooOOOOooOOOon!!!!!!!!!" I yelled while I ran towards him who was sitting on the floor. I spotted him minutes later after that devastating encounter with Nagisa, Makoto, Haruka, and that other guy with glasses.

"Ah! Soraru! There you are. I've been waiting for-" Before he could finish his sentence, I slammed myself into him and wrapped my arms around his back.

"Cruel."

"Cruel who?"

"Cruel. They are."

"They are who?"

"Looooon!"

"I get it, I get it. So they don't remember you?"

"T-they... don't!"

I started to make crying noises, but there's just no actual tears.

"That's alright Sora-kun," he said while patting my head.

"You really aren't helping, you know?" I said in between sniffs. "But before anything else," I suddenly said, moving away from Lon, "How's class?" I asked.

"Oh it was fine! I made some friends. We were supposed to eat lunch together but I said I'd skip it and look out for you on the rooftop."

"Did the teacher introduce you?"

"Yeah...?"

"Were there," I paused, "...Girl squeals?"

Lon was hesitant but he said 'yeah' quietly. With the '...?' at the end.

"And were there," I paused again, "...Guy squeals?"

Lon face palmed as if he knew this question was coming. He looked away and nodded.

"I knew eeeeeet!"

"You need to stop making fun of me, Ru!"

"I'm sorry but I can't help showing happiness that my best friend is a chick magnet and a guy magnet!"

"Change topic! The teacher will introduce you this afternoon! We're both in Class 1! Also, we'll be classmates with your former swim mates!"

"They're not my mates anymore and I never want to see their faces agai-"

Just then the doors swung open. And Lon averted his gaze from me to the people who just arrived. I turned to my back.

"Ooooui!" Nagisa yelled and walked over to us along with Makoto, the other two were left behind and then Haru walked over to the railings.

"We decided to get some fresh air before going back to class! Coincidence to see you here!" Nagisa said,

"Why did you suddenly run away? Was it something I said?" Makoto asked,

"You... don't remember Soraru?" Lon asked while he pointed at me,

"Definitely not. Never seen you before." Nagisa said,

Nagisa that really hurt and I hate you.

"Well, 'Soraru' sounds familiar. But aside from that I don't remember at all." Makoto said,

Makoto that semi-hurt and I semi-hate you.

"Why bother remember something you cant? That's just a waste of effort." Haruka said from the distance,

Note to self: You strongly hate Haruka and you need to punch him in the face when you get the chance.

"You don't? But Soraru swam with you guys during your summer in a swim club?" Lon suddenly said,

Makoto and Nagisa's eyes were wide open, they were both staring at me, I could also see Haruka's face surprised from the distance.

"But Soraru," Nagisa and Makoto both said,

"-you're a girl!"
