You lived in a place like a palace and you were definitely treated like a princess. You’re an only child. Only child of the richest couple in your town. Your parents are totally different from you. They are rude, ambitious, and egoistic. You are kind, pure and you don’t care about money, like your parents do. It seems like even though you’re their daughter, they still care more about their fortune than about you. Since you were young, they controlled your life. Your relationship with them has never been easy. You never felt their love for you, and you hated them for that. But you couldn’t deny the fact that they were still your parents.
The only one who has always supported and been there for you no matter what, was your friend Austin. You’ve known him since you were a child. He’s three years older than you, and you have always been really close to each other. Your parents don’t like him though. Their excuse is that he comes from a lower class of family. You always get sick every time they tell you that. They even tried to control your social life.
You have never been the kind of girl who liked to paint their nails, who bragged about your money… You were simple. Of course, your princess life ruined part of it. Your parents had never let you go out to any “icky” places. You agreed with that though.
You were always divided between Austin and your parents’ way. You could go with Austin and sit on the grass and enjoy the moment, go on the river, etc. But you felt a bit disgusted when it came to fishes, water plants, insects,… And you liked Austin even more for the fact that he always tried to make you overcome all of that.
You’ve already graduated from secondary and you followed one economics course against your will. Your parents made you do that so later on you could take over their business and start a life on your own.
There was this one day that you and Austin came even closer by the fact that your parents had had an argument with you about your grades. And it had been enough…
"You know you can't just keep on doing this Alice!" your mum yelled.
'It'll ruin you and your life!'
'Just stop, okay?! I know what I'm doing!' you yelled back.
'You do, huh? I don't think so… It's all because of that Austin, isn't it?!' your dad yelled. You couldn't contain yourself anymore and started crying and shaking your head from side to side.
'He has always distracted you! Don't you understand Alice? He's not the kind of friend you need! He's lower than us. He wouldn't even have the right to talk to you!' he yelled and you cried harder.
'No!' you yelled.
'He's like everyone else! You are the ones who think he can't approach to me. You think he's different because he doesn't have the money we have! Stop saying that!' you kept on yelling.
'And where are your manners? He took that away from you, huh?' your mum yelled.
'No! No, he didn't! I don't wanna be nice to any of you anymore! You control my whole life and I'm sick of it!'
'Sick of what, Alice!? You have everything! Everything! There's nothing missing in your life! You have money, you have a big house…' you father said and you laughed silently.
'Yes… I have everything YOU want! I don't care about the money! I don't care if we're rich or not! If we live in a huge house, with many maids, farmers… I don't care! And for pointing that out… There's actually something missing in my life…' you said.
'What?' you mum asked.
'Parents! Parents who take care of me and who accept me for who I am! Who don't control or destroy my life with their shit!' you yelled and your dad slapped you immediately.
