'What do you want?' you opened the fridge, not facing him.
'I just wanted to ask you something…'
'What?' you closed the door with full force and sat down on the table, drinking a glass of milk.
'Who were you with?' he asked all of a sudden and your eyes widened a bit.
'Hmm? What are you talking about?' you pretend you didn't know and your mind flew all the away to Austin. Your father saw you with him after warning you that he didn't want to see you with him again.
'You know it well Alice. Don't pretend you're stupid. Like him.' you almost burst in anger and got up. You started walking towards the door leaving him without an answer. He grabbed your arm forcedly.
'Let me go!' you yelled with teary eyes.
'Stop! I asked you a question and I'm waiting for your answer!' he yelled back and you shrink a bit.
'With Austin… I was with Austin.' you murmured looking around with your eyes on the floor. He let you go and looked at you.
'You thought I wouldn't see it, I bet…' he walked away and you looked at him from behind.
'Stupid…' you whispered and walked back upstairs.
The next day you woke up feeling tired. You reminded yourself it was Sunday. On Sundays you would always go with Austin to the river.
You both liked to just sit on the grass and run, since you were kids that you’ve always done that. As your best friend, he had never disappointed you. He always showed up and you had fun for an hour or even two.
You dressed yourself, had a fast breakfast and finally walked towards the river. You arrived but you didn’t see him there. You thought it was strange. He was always there before you arrived and today he failed.
'Maybe he's just a bit late…' you thought to yourself.
You sat on the grass under the big tree where you used to sit with him after running. That place brought you so many perfect memories:
'Austin! Look what I found!'
'What?' he ran to you smiling.
'That huge tree!'
'Wow!' he let out and looked at you smiling.
You sighed. You were only ten years old.
'Ugh. I'm tired. Can we sit here?' you asked him and he nodded, sitting with you.
'Haha! You won't catch me! Ever!' you were running through that green and fresh field when you suddenly tripped on something, screamed and fell down.
'That's what you think!' he yelled and ran to you.
'Are you okay?' he asked and you started laughing.
'What? You scared me!' he yelled and helped you getting up.
'Look what I caught…' he said holding you tight and carrying you on his shoulder.
'AH! Austin, let me down!' you were laughing uncontrollably.
’Alice! Come here!’ he yelled.
'Yes?' you came closer to him.
'Aaah!' you yelled desperately when he showed you a snail on the grass.
'Shh! It's just a snail…' he laughed and you walked a bit back.
He grabbed your arm and sat you between his legs on the grass, near the snail. He noticed you were constantly staring at every move of that small and inoffensive animal and he laughed.
’Alice, relax… It’s just a little animal. Let me show you.’ he let you go.
'No, no, no! Don't touch him!' you said and he shrugged. He put a finger on the snail.
'Ewww…' you said and he laughed.
'Come here. It won't bite you.' he pulled you closer and you watched how the snail got in his “house”. You laughed slightly and he looked at you.
'It's afraid of us. You shouldn't be afraid of it.' he looked at you and grabbed your hand. He slowly made you stretch your arm to touch the snail and you smiled wide when you did.
And there came again the thought that he actually made you overcome your princess lifestyle and for a long wide, until today, you lost fears and started liking his lifestyle better than yours.
Austin was the only one who made you truly happy. The time flew and you were still lost in your thoughts… You looked around once more and then checked the time. It had passed half an hour already. He wasn’t there yet. You got up and made your way back home.
You sat on your bed and picked up the phone.
'Maybe he's mad at me…' that thought hunted you for a while but you finally called him.
He didn’t answer. Not one single time from all the ten missed calls. You were seriously worried now.
The week passed by quickly and you weren’t happy at all. You haven’t seen Austin during this whole time. You thought then about going to his house. It’d be better to know from his parents and maybe he was there too.
