"Babe, I'm home."
I groaned from tbe exertion of hauling myself down the stairs. I hobbled to the living room and met Joshua's concerned face as he arms reached out for me.
"Oh hon, I was coming up to you."
"I tired of bedrest. My ankle isn't that swollen anymore."
I scowled at him and a look of uncertainty flickered across his features.
"Gen-"
"Uh-uh! We talked about this Josh."
I cautioned him, knowing that he was about to comment about the more-than-necessary time he wanted me to remain in bed to recover from a little sprain I had gotten while training.
His face fell into an expression of exasperation and I smirked victoriously. With a sigh and a roll of his eyes, he scooped me up and carried me to our room.
He lay me down gently and I had a sudden image in my mind of him bent naked over me. I flushed with heat and rolled out from under him.
His brow creased with worry and I sat gently on the side of the bed.
"Gen?"
I blushed, still looking away from him.
"Oh shut up. Tell me you don't get tempted too."
He laughed.
"Then I won't exactly be shutting up, would I?"
I let out a small huff of frustration, finally narrowing my eyes at him.
"Just answer the damn question."
"Tempted to do what exactly."
I groaned, knowing he was doing this on purpose because I didn't like to talk about this topic.
"You know......stuff."
"What stuff?"
I risked a glance at him and saw that he was suppressing giggles. With a cry of outrage I slapped the back of his head.
"Josh!"
"Okay okay! Of course Gen. It's hard to resist you, you know."
I rolled my eyes at his attempts to charm me back into a good mood.
"Be serious Joshua."
He sighed and took my hand in his. His finger under my chin lifted my gaze to him.
"Genevieve. You enchant me every second I'm around you. Of course it's hard. But I remember our promise."
"Marriage."
He carressed my cheek.
"Maybe I should marry you then."
I looked up at him in shock and saw the humour lacing his perfect features. Scowling once more, I slapped his chest again and rolled over. His laugh behind me notified me of his obvious lack of concern for serious matters.
After a few seconds, he climbed over me again and took my face in his hands.
"I'm not joking baby. You are everything to me."
I melted under his loving gaze, all irritation at his antics vanishing.
"Josh-"
He nuzzled his nose into my neck and purred softly.
"I love you."
He raised himself off me for a second and I didn't even get to see his reaction before he covered my lips with a searing kiss. I was lost in him, his mouth moving gently against mine, his hands tracing my curves. The minutes seemed like mere seconds when he broke away a few centimetres.
"God, I love you."
He looked at me as if I was the most precious thing in the world. I blushed under his heavy gaze. He pecked me again before he climbed off the bed to change. I stared at him for a moment, basking in the sheer pleasure of being around him. He turned and caught me but I didn't look away. We stayed that way for minutes, our gazes never breaking.
I only realised he had moved closer when I felt the bed dip and his warmth surrounded me again. He brushed my lips with his softly and pulled me into his arms. My head lay on his chest, his hands stroking me slowly, one in my hair, the other tracing the curve of my back. I swung my injured ankle over his leg and tried to press myself even further into him.
"Who'd have thought we could fall so madly in love so fast?"
"Oh Josh, it's been forever."
"It hasn't really. Not even a year."
"Almost a year."
He shot me a dry look.
"It's been four months."
I laughed and turned my face into his chest.
"Best four months of my life. "
He chuckled at my lame attempt to avoid having to admit that I was wrong.
It really felt like I had known Joshua for years. I had never clicked with anyone so naturally and no one made me feel the way he did. With him I could barely focus, but then he made my mind clearer than ever. My belly was always turning over but then with him I was never calmer. He was the most refreshing mix of controversies. But my heart beat in only one way. With love for him.
"I have a class tomorrow."
I had begun classes with the university attached to the agency to earn my Bachelor's Degree. I was majoring in law of course, as I would be employed with the agency's law firm when the time came.
"I'll drop you after training."
"Ah, you've finally allowed me to train again."
He opened his mouth to protest but I cut him off quickly before he could change his mind.
"You know I do have a liscence and a car."
He frowned.
"Genevieve. I'm already allowing you to step out the house. At least let me carry you around to make sure you're safe."
I rolled my eyes.
"You'd swear this wasn't my house."
He groaned loudly and pulled away from me.
"Don't start this again. I told you to pick the place. You chose your house. It isn't my fault that my parents had more important things to worry about than paying off the mortgage on a house."
The missing comfort of his arms and a strage bout of hormones had me feeling a lot more forgiving than I usually would have been and I relented.
"Ok ok, baby I'm sorry. Come back."
He huffed and grabbed me again, setting me right where I belonged. I spoke after he had calmed down.
"That was a little harsh though."
He kissed the top of head gently.
"I know. I'm sorry. Truthfully, I wish I still had my parents home in my name. Some tangible memory of them would have been nice."
"I know. I'm sorry too. This is our house now, not mine."
He bent and kissed me, smiling against my lips.
"Ours. I like the sound of that."
