Joshua spent the weekend with me. Neither of us had mentioned it but I knew as well as he, that we didn't want to leave each other. Unfortunately, on Sunday evening he had to return to his apartment and our vacation was well and truly over.
I bounded into Room 4, half hour earlier than usual, and overly eager to see Joshua again.
He was hidden in the computer room when I found him. He didn't look up as he read something in interest on his tablet. I circled wide around the room and crept up to edge of the sofa. He still didn't look up and I wondered if he was purposefully pretending to be oblivious of my presence.
I jumped onto the sofa, my head landing perfectly in his lap. His shocked face looked down on me and I smiled cheekily up at him. His face broke into a wide grin and he leant down to place a kiss upon my lips.
"Hi babe."
"Hey, I just got news. There's a new case, and the supervisor is giving it to us. You think you're ready?"
My ears perked up and I lit up in excitement.
"It's okay that I didn't finish my training?"
"Oh Gen, you don't give yourself enough credit. You've mastered the basics and more. As an agent, we'll always be training. Don't worry."
I beamed even wider, anxious to go out on the field for the first time. Raising myself off the sofa and stood before him, my hand outstretched.
"Well let's go."
He chuckled and grabbed my hand, lifting himself up and pecking me quickly before leading me to the weapons room to prepare ourselves for the mission.
He briefed me on the mission and we came up with our strategy within half an hour. We spent the rest of the day in practice, taking care to refrain from over-exertion. We woke from a short nap in the late afternoon and ate a quick meal.
We took an hour to get ready, stocking up on guns and ammo. Joshua willingly helped me strap on my sheaths, taking all the opportunities to send me into a fit of hot flushes. To remain inconspicuous, we opted to refrain from bulletproof vests.
Our mission was a simple escort task. Pick up and drop off. We rode in an agency loaned car, fully equipped with weapons and bulletproof on all sides. I felt Joshua's eyes on me but I didn't dare look at him, lest I get trapped in them again. We had already left the agency five minutes late due to our inability to keep our hands off each other, and we couldn't afford any more distractions.
I sighed in relief when we arrived at our destination on time. I followed Josh towards the waiting area of the airport and we sat down to wait on our clients. I rested my head on his shoulder and he nuzzled his nose on my cheek as we tried to act as natural as possible.
But our senses were still on high alert. Out of the corner of my eyes I saw a woman fiddling nervously with her watch. I glanced over at the time. It read 7:36 a.m. I nudged Josh discreetly and he nodded, seeing the same. I shifted my gaze to the man opposite me reading the newspaper. When I checked the date, I frowned. It was a month old.
We were both ready for the imminent attack. He kissed my forehead to convey his message to me as he could use no words. 'Be safe, baby. Good luck'.
My hands were already travelling to where my guns were lodged when there was a loud bang to my right. We sprung into action immediately. I spun wildly firing shots all around. Most of my bullets found their targets, temporarily crippling many men. Joshua moved to the same dance as me, relentlessly clearing off men. The room was filled with undercover men, who now came forth in numbers.
