CHAPTER ONE

INFATUATIONKatherine always knew there was something wrong with her. Maybe she realized it after the loss of her father, or maybe it was just the way she was supposed to be.
The brunette had just celebrated the 9th anniversary of her father's death. Fiona said it's what Adam would've wanted, but the whole thing seemed wrong to the young girl. Why would you want to be reminded of losing a loved one? Somebody once told Katherine that if you touch a bruise numerous times, it would stop hurting. But to her thinking, that person was very wrong, because the more the brunette touched any of her bruises, the more pain she felt. And in that moment, Katherine felt as if it was about more that just a stupid bruise. Every time her mother hosted those anniversaries, every time she invited the Blossoms or some of her other acquaintances, it made the girl sick. Why would she want to relive the pain?
However, the one thing Katherine found even stranger was the fact that none of the relatives from her father's side came. No aunt Tina or the girl's favorite cousins Stella. When Kat was little, Fiona would come up with a lie such as "their letter must've gotten lost in the mail.". But the older the brunette got, the more she understood that was a lie. After the long day of mourning over her father's grave as she held her mother's gloved hand, Katherine had to take her mind off of things. And the right place to do it was at Pop's diner. She planned to meet there with Cheryl, without Ginger or Tina this time.
"I really don't want to relive that nightmare ever again." The brunette bitterly spoke as she sat opposite to the redhead, putting a cocktail cherry in her mouth.
"Well, I have to admit, I'm glad your mother didn't invite us this year," Cheryl scoffed with a grin on her face, but as soon as she realized the comment might've been hurtful to the girl, her smile faded,
"I'm sorry... I am being offensive while you're--""We're all going to hell anyway," Kat cut her off, frowning as she glanced down at her chocolate milkshake,
"Ugh, we are the worst."The two girls spent what seemed like the whole night, talking about school or cheerleading, until the red haired girl spoke out of all sudden,
"Jason was asking about you, by the way.""About me?" The brunette questioned, furrowing her brows,
"Your brother is mildly annoying, Cherry.""Mildly?" Cheryl let out a dry laugh,
"If I didn't know better, I'd say he has a huge crush on you.""Or maybe I'm just one of the girls he wants to add to his Scoring Book." She shrugged, earning an eye roll from the redhead.
"I told you, that book does not exist. It's just a thing those boys made up to feel better about themselves." The red haired girl pointed out, believing her own words.
"Whatever you say, Cherry." The brunette laughed it off, taking a bite of a cocktail cherry.
♢♢♢
The next day Katherine acted as if she was fine. Some students expressed their condolences, to which she would mumble a simple "thank you."
"So, which Riverdale hottie would you spend your 7 minutes of heaven with?" The brunette snapped out of her thoughts as she was surrounded by Cheryl and her minions.
"Oh, come on, we're doing this again?" The girl rolled her eyes, earning a giggle from Ginger. It wasn't a cute giggle, more like a witch cackling. Kat had just realized that she snorted at her own thoughts,
"I'm not thinking about boys right now, Cherry.""It's okay if you're into girls, Kitty-Kat, it's 2016." Tina shrugged, earning an eye roll from both Cheryl and Kat.
"I'm just... Confused." The brunette sighed. Her whole life, she's never been interested in anybody for more than a week. She would accept gifts, compliments, the girl would even go on dates, but when things got too intimate, Katherine would bail. Cheryl called the girl out for having commitment issues, but deep down, the brunette knew it wasn't the problem. She wanted a relationship, she wanted somebody to care for her in a loving way, but most boys in Riverdale High were less that mature. Guys like Chuck or Reggie would've been discussing how tightly a dress hugged Kat's figure, rather than complimenting her intelligence. The girl's brilliance was never mentioned in a conversation. People just thought she was another pretty face in Riverdale, nothing else to it.
"The guys in this school are all tools, no wonder Katherine hadn't settled for anyone yet." Cheryl defended her dark haired friend.
"What about Archie Andrews?" Tina suggested,
"He's cute. Sort of.""Okay, no offense, Cheryl, but your brother is super hot," Ginger spoke, blushing as the group consisting of Reggie, Chuck and Jason himself passed beside the four girls,
"You could fry eggs on that body.""Jesus, G, you should listen to yourself sometimes." Katherine mumbled, mentally rolling her eyes. She never liked Ginger or Tina, they were just two annoying girls who hung out with Cheryl.
"My brother's into someone else." The redhead glared at her friend, and then glanced at Kat. Jason was very open about being infatuated with the brunette. Cheryl promised not to tell the girl, explaining the couple as the 'ultimate endgame'. And yet, she couldn't help, but feel jealous from the attention her brother was giving the Parker girl. She truly cared about her brother, so much that she wanted to protect him from everything, even her best friend.
