"What the hell" I mutter as I stare at the repeated failed messages. If I didn't know any better I'd guess that Riley blocked my number. But why?
Was this her way of dumping me? Did she realize that the distance was just too hard? I couldn't understand...until I started scrolling up. And then it all became clear.
My heart stops as I read the messages sent from my phone last night. Messages I clearly didn't send. "Fucking Missy" I groan, throwing my phone down onto my bed and running my fingers through my hair in frustration.
I should've known, really. A missing phone and a conniving, evil bitch of an ex is a dangerous combination. One that may have just ruined the best thing that's ever happened to me.
It's then that I make a decision. I grab my keys and storm out of the house, racing off to confront my ex for what will be the last time.
I pull up to her house after a short ten minute drive and rush up to the door, pounding loudly despite knowing that after the party last night she's probably still fast asleep.
After maybe three or four minutes the door finally opens and Missy stands in the foyer, her hair a mess, a saccharine smile on her face and a robe tied around her. "Lucas. This is a pleasant surprise."
I scoff. "I don't think pleasant is the word I'd use to describe it." I push past her, stepping into the massive home while she shuts the door behind me.
"Lukey, it's always pleasant to see you. Tell me, what's wrong?" she asks, stepping towards me. I take a step back.
"What's wrong?" I gape at her. "You took my phone last night and insinuated to my girlfriend that we had sex."
"So?" she laughs, throwing her hair over her shoulder before settling her arms across her chest. "You can't tell me that this girl really has you sold on abstinence" she scoffs, rolling her eyes as she confirms that she not only stole my phone and texted my girlfriend but also read our messages.
"I understand if you don't want it from me. Been there done that, right?" She smirks and my heart sinks into my stomach. Losing my virginity to the witch standing before me was the biggest mistake of my life, one I never once repeated. Especially not last night.
"But, I assure you there are plenty of girls who would be more than willing to give you a relationship where your all your needs are being met."
"My needs?" I shake my head in disbelief. "The only thing I need is her and thanks to you she may never speak to me again."
"Honey it's just an infatuation" she expresses dismissively but I know that's not true. "In time it'll-."
"I'm in love with her Missy" I blurt out, unable to contain the words once I realize how true they really are.
Riley isn't an infatuation; she's the first person I think about when I wake up and the last before I go to bed. My day doesn't start until we text good morning, homework is exhausting without her encouragement and my heart doesn't skip without hearing her laugh.
I love her.
And sure, the way we met was unorthodox but now that she was in my life there was no way I could ever live without her.
"You can't be serious" Missy shakes her head.
"I'm beyond serious and I swear if you ever speak to her again you'll regret it. Stay away from us" I insist as I walk towards the door.
"She won't want you anymore once you tell her you're not a virgin" she shouts but I shake my head in disagreement.
"She will when I tell her what a horrible mistake it was" I reply, making her eyes widen as I leave the house, slamming the door behind me.
