"She could've been lying" Maya suggests, playing angel's advocate for once in her life. I sigh, scooping up another bite of strawberry ice cream.
"I highly doubt it" I mumble as I finish my bite and dive back into the almost empty tub of ice cream. I was scraping the bottom of it at this point. "The funny part is" I begin to explain, "I knew telling Lucas that I wanted to wait was probably gonna run him off but I thought-." I trail off, putting down my tub of ice cream and settling into a state of defeat.
"You thought he was different" Maya finishes anyway, reading my mind. She sighs deeply. "I get it. I really do but, honey maybe you should unblock his number. See what he has to say."
"No" I shake my head definitively. "He'll try to pull me back in with his charming southern ways a-and I can't let him do that. I am done with Lucas" I insist and before my best friend can argue, her phone vibrates.
She looks down at the screen and bites her lip. "I uh. I'll be right back" she says, stepping out of the room. I roll my eyes. If she wanted to text dirty things to my uncle she could just tell me.
"Tell Josh I say hello" I shout after her as I collapse back onto my bed to await her return.
