Part 6
Walking over to my closet, I look inside, gasping at what I see. I’ve never seen so many clothes in my life! There are running shorts of all different colors, leggings to go underneath in neutral colors, different athletic shirts, shoes, jeans, casual tops, and even a few skirts and dresses. There is a small drawer that comes out of the wall, filled with underwear, socks, and shirts and pants for sleeping in.
Overwhelmed by my choices, I choose a plain black shirt, blue skinny jeans, and red flats. I keep my black gloves on. This is more like me.
Next I return to the bathroom to brush my hair. It’s a mess right now, so running a brush through it would help. Sure enough, it does, and my hair comes nearly to my waist as it should.
Seeing that there is also a toothbrush and toothpaste, I brush my teeth, floss, and use mouthwash. It would suck if I had bad breath.
There are makeup bags, too, but I decide against it. I want to be as real as possible; besides, I don’t know how to use it.
I come out and look at the clock again. Only fifteen minutes have gone by.
I wonder how Colby’s doing. I don’t know anyone else, so it’s pointless to go to the lobby. Maybe I should just pay him a visit. The boys’ floor is the second floor, and his is room fifty-eight.
I grab my room card, slip it in my pocket, and exit my room, quietly closing my door behind me. I walk down the halls and to the elevators, where I push the down button, like I had watched Misty. As soon as the doors open, I step in and push the floor two button. The doors close, and my stomach drops. As soon as it opens on floor two, I step out.
The halls are similar to the girls’ floor, only the walls are painted blue instead of pink, and the floors are tile instead of carpet. I guess the guys can’t have a carpet because they’re too stupid.
Looking around, I choose the right hallway, which is for rooms one through sixty. His will be farther down the hall, on the side with the even numbers, as I learned.
The hallways are pretty much empty, accept for a few cracked doors. One door opens and a guy steps out, looking surprised when he sees me walking. He keeps going down the hall, staring, until I pass him. Haven’t these people ever seen a girl before?
At last I arrive at room fifty-eight, and knock on the door a few times. When the doors open, it isn’t Colby.
“Um,” I say, confused. I’m sure she said room fifty-eight was Colby’s!
“Are you looking for someone?” The boy asks. He has dirty-blonde hair and dazzling green eyes.
“Yeah,” I say. “Colby?”
“Oh, the new one!” He exclaims. “Yeah, this is his room. My name is Dakota. Colby went to the bathroom to wash up. He’ll be back in a few minutes.”
“Okay,” I say, stepping inside after he gestures for me to. Colby’s room is all green, with green sheets and a lime-green comforter.
“You’re not technically supposed to be on the boys’ floor,” Dakota says, taking a seat in a chair. I sit across from him.
