Carter

I took a deep breath and let it out. "Okay." I took a look in the mirror and I wasn't satisfied. I had ten minutes. I couldn't decide on how I wanted my hair. Should I have it up? Down? Sideways?

Sideways? Seriously? Idiot.

After messing with it too many times, I just decided to leave it how I normally do my hair: nothing.

I shouldn't be stressing so much over this. Over her.

But I do. I want to. I like her. I always have and always will. I just hope this dinner will turn out right. Then maybe she might feel the same way. Plus, she was the reason I wanted to come back.

As if. I have no chance, I never did.

But that doesn't mean I won't try.

I haven't seen her in years, for all I know she could have someone already. I put those negative thoughts aside.

I sat on my bed and thought of how our conversation would go. Smile, say hi, small talk, maybe bring up the "do you have a boyfriend topic" no. No. That just sounds desperate. Scratch that. Smile, nod, small talk-

"Carter! Let's go! We don't want to keep them waiting!" My mother called.

I let out a shaky breath and took one more look in the mirror. Maybe sideways wouldn't look so bad.

Idiot.

Don't mess this up. I kept telling myself.

So I got up and went to my living room where everyone was already ready.

"Ready to go? Are you excited? I know I am." My mother asked cheerfully as we made our way to our car.

"Yeah." I replied. And I was. I waited too long to finally see her again.

I hope this turns out good.
