Darcy

The drive was completely nervewracking. My mom wouldn't stop talking about how excited she was to meet up with her best friend, Julie Mason. She hasn't seen her in years since they moved all the way to New York while we stayed here in Dallas. Well they were moving back because of Mr. Mason's job and when they heard the news, both moms went crazy. We invited them for dinner at Maggiano's as a welcome back mini-reunion.

My mother kept on talking to my dad while I, on the other hand, was shaking and fidgeting and going crazy inside. I kept replaying on how I was going to get through this dinner, what I was going to say, what I was going to do. I want this evening to end.

Although there was a part of me that was curious on seeing him. How was he? Did he miss me? Does he even remember me? How does he look now? Is he cute? Does he have a girlfriend now?

Cute? Girlfriend? Really? Focus Darcy.

I mentally smacked myself for calling him him. I can't even say his name!

His.

Just say it in your mind! Carter Carter Carter.

"Darcy!" I jumped in my seat.

"Y-yes mom?"

"Well are you going to stay in your seat or have some dinner?"

We arrived. Crap.

"R-r-right."

"Why are you shivering? Are you sick? Come on let's go!" My mom said.

I unbuckled my seatbelt and followed the rest of my family into the restaurant without saying a word.

"Are you really cold or are you just DYING to see Carter again?" My older brother, Jason teased.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." And I trudged on into the restaurant ignoring my brother's teasing. It was in the middle of summer. Why was I cold?

My parents got a table for eight and I excused myself to go to the bathroom before they came.

As I walked to the bathroom, being the clumsy person I was, I bumped into a guy. A cute guy. No problem with that, except I'm absolutely awkward when it comes to these things. Like seriously. I am. I blushed because he was holding both of my arms.

"Hey, watch out next time." He smiled. He had blue eyes. Cute. Wow Darcy. Snap out of it.

"Yeah. Right. Sorry!" And I rushed into the bathroom.

"Hey! Wait the-" the door swung open and I was smacked in the head. I lost my balance and fell. Into his arms. Again.

"Are you okay?" He asked, concerned.

"Yeah. I'm okay. I am so sorry. I am a clutz." I said and I found myself looking into his eyes. And he was looking back. We had a momentum until I snapped out of it. "Okay this is awkward." I let out a shaky laugh. Well, thank you, again." I politely said and broke free from his arms (even though I was totally fine where I was) before this could get any more awkward.

He just smiled and said, "No problem." Then he walked away.

I cautiously opened the door and walked in. I looked at the mirror and frowned. My hair was a mess and I was blushing. Blushing. I mentally slapped myself for the third time this evening.

This dinner was driving me insane! And we haven't eaten yet! I shouldn't let it get to me. I don't know why I'm letting it get to me.

Unless...

No. Nope. Never.

I fixed my hair and made myself look as presentable as I could and walked out the bathroom slowly. I made my way back to my table.

"There she is!" My mother exclaimed.

I smiled and waved politely to the Masons and then I was bear hugged by a very ecstatic Julie Mason.

"My oh my! Darcy! Look at you! You've grown so much! You're so pretty! Oh I missed hugging my baby!" She gushed. It's true. She's practically a second mother to me. and the Masons are practically my second family. Maybe even more than that. I was glad they're back.

"Thanks Julie. I missed you so much too." I grinned.

When she let go she went back to her seat which was next to Mr. Mason who was having a talk with my dad. I smiled and greeted everyone in the table and I froze when I saw the last person. It was the guy. The one who helped me up. The cute one. Right there.

And he was already looking at me.

I checked to see if I was looking at the wrong table.

Please, please please.

Nope. No luck today.

"Honey, aren't you going to sit down?"

"Y-yeah." I nervously took a seat next to my brother, because it was the only one left.

I sat right across from him. It was pretty weird because everyone was in their own conversations and I was just sitting. I took a sip of my water and looked at Carter. He looked older, and hotter. Wow hotter? Really? Stupid. And now that I think of it, he looks the same. Blue eyes, except more color; more vivid. His hair was short instead of the floppy longer hair he had before. And his smile. Wow. That's all I could say.

He was talking to his older brother, Gab and Jason about something.

Him?! Seriously? Just say the name!

"Carter." I blurted. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

He turned to me and smiled.

I think I might faint.
