The cold morning breeze blows on my face, the sand kicks up behind me, waves crashing against the shore welcoming me for a morning swim.
And that's exactly what I do at 4 am in the morning, I run and dive in, the water moves softly around my outstretched fingers.

I quickly adapt to the waters temperature. I skim through the water like a pebble falling to the ocean bed. My tail glides perfectly and with each thrust of my tail the greens and blues move like holo.
I poke my head out of the water, looking around at my surroundings. "What is a beautiful girl like you doing out in the ocean?" I quickly look around meeting eye to eye with a boy in a DownyHigh uniform. He's wearing one of those lifeguard vests on top of his uniform. His hair is black and he has browny green eyes like non I've ever seen.
How did I not see his boat?! It is small but I should have seen it. With no hesitation I go back under water swimming far away as possible.
He goes to my school, I really hope he doesn't recognise me!
Alex's POV
What? Where did she go? Alex looks around for the girl but cannot seem to see her. "I guess I can't 'sea' her anywhere" he snorts. "I need to get back to my fathers fish and chip store".
(At the fish and chip store) Alex carries in a bucket full of dead fish and places it on the bench. "Oh great you brought back a lot of fish this time!" Alex's dad says picking a fish up by its tail and observing it thoroughly.
"Hey dad, I saw a girl out in the ocean and I tried talking to her, she looked at me like she saw a ghost and disappeared..." "Maybe she was a mermaid" "Mermaids aren't real dad" Alex's dad leans forward. "Only if you believe they are" Alex gives him a blank look and walks out the door. "Have a good day at school" Alex's dad stands back crossing his arms giving Alex a grin.
Ana's POV I get back to my dads beach side house. My mother and father bought this house when they got married. My mother couldn't live far away from the beach. I don't blame her I probably couldn't be able to either.
I grab my school uniform, put my hair up into a messy bun, chuck some mascara and lip balm on and out the door I go, oh yeah my bag. Almost forgot.
I'm always up early but I always tend to get to school late... I run to class and burst through the door.
"Late again Ama" "Sorry miss!" Miss Chamber is the nicest teacher ever. She's like a mother that I've never had. She cares for me and doesn't get angry when I'm 20 minutes late for class.
I meet eyes with Max and Carley and sit down next to them. "Why are you always late Ama?" Carley says giving me a sweet smile.
"It's because she's swimming with the fish again" The class laughs at Violets joke. Oh you haven't met Violet yet? She's the arrogant mean girl that you see in every single high school movie, the rich one, the popular one.
"Oh stick it up your a** Violet!" Max shouts standing up giving Violet a death glare. Max is brave and doesn't let anyone pick on me. But Violet always tends to come back each time she just loves to bring me down.
"Maxie sit down!" Miss chamber yells. Max rolls her eyes and falls back into her seat letting out a groan. Violet sticks her tongue out at max and shoves 2 pieces of bubble mint gum in her mouth.
"Violet see me after class you've got detention" The colour goes out of Violets face and max burst out laughing from Miss Chambers words.
"Do you want to see me after class too Maxie?" Max shuts up and looks down at her papers.
I look around the class room and see a boy staring at me. The same boy that I met eye to eye with in the middle of the ocean. He waves at me, holy crap! Does he know it's me?! I give him a grin and turn back to face the board. This is so awkward!
After class I fast walk down the hall way completely forgetting about Max and Carley, I just want to get away from that boy.
I turn around noticing that the boy is running after me. "Wait!" He calls out. And that's my signal to start bookin it down the hall way.
I'm running as fast as my legs can take me till... slip! I slip over a big puddle of water. You might think that I've grown a tail by now but I forgot to add that it takes about 10 seconds for it to happen.
I get up as fast as I can, ignoring the laughter coming from every direction. I jump into the nearest class room locking the door behind me.
"That was... w, woh!!" I fall on the floor with a thud. "Oh yeah the tail..."
After drying the water off my body my tail turns back into my legs, I open the door and head straight out of this place. I've been humiliated enough today and don't want anything else bad happening.
The school is close to my house and the beach but instead of going to the beach, what I normally would do, I think it would be best to go home.
Going up to my bedroom I sit on my bed looking out at the ocean, I hold onto my mothers necklace.
"I hate being the only mermaid..."
I sigh with tears in my eyes, I lay down falling into a deep sleep.
