Ruki was so much more talkative than Kou remembered as the two sat at the local café down the street, the small doctor blabbing away at the minute.
He easily lost track, but quickly grasped the idea of good timing on when to nod in agreement. He wasn't listening anymore and to sit here and listen to Ruki's problems isn't why he ended up taking the offer of going out to lunch with him at all. Finally getting a chance to work with Yuu first hand was harder on Kou then he expected. He didn't think he'd be up for nights at a time, thinking of what to do. He spent more time wanting to help an insane murderer locked in the bottom of a basement then call his own mother. He was blocking off everyone from his life, which weren't many, but never before had he been this tied up over a patient. Did he really care that much?
As he sat at the table, mindlessly tracing his fingers along the coffee cup, he battled every inch of himself not to admit to Ruki. He might have been right about the teeth and the fact Shiroyama was fucking psychotic, but fairy tales weren't real and never will be. There had to be some logical explanation as to why Yuu was the way he was, but vampire or demon couldn't be one of them.
The poor honey blonde just needed assurance. Peace of mind so he can continue this case because there was no way in hell he was backing down.
"Are you listening? Takashima?"
"Huh?!" Without realizing it, Kou had almost dropped his phone off the table, he was so deep in thought. This caught the smaller doctor's attention. "Yeah. I'm fine."
"It's this case isn't it?"
Kou couldn't respond, unable to think of where to even begin with his thoughts.
"Look, you don't have to really take this. No other doctor has been able to handle him before, and it's not surprising you can't at this point."
"That's not it. In fact I plan on working with him later on this week. We have another session coming up."
"Really?" Ruki beamed, adjusting his glasses.
"Yes, but- I need answers. I need your expertise. You said you've worked with him before?"
"W-well, yes-"
"Then you know more than I do and why he's so..."
"Immortal?"
"Crazy." There was no way Kouyou would admit it. Hell no.
There was a long pause as the two then focused on their coffee. Despite the dull roar within the cafe, Kouyou's thoughts have never been louder. It stung to have Ruki finish the sentence like that, mostly because the detail fit so perfectly. But how could that whimsical detail fit a mentally ill person so well? It just didn't make any sense.Without another word, Ruki quickly bent over to return with a small piece of paper in his hand. "Here's my number. Obviously you're gunna have a lot to talk about since you're taking this on. I'll always be here to listen."
"Thank you." The blonde quickly accepted the little sheet of paper by stuffing it in his pocket, dismissing the look on Ruki's face. As said before, there was something very off about this doctor and Kou couldn't help but wonder about the real reason behind his accession as they made their way back onto the street.
What made him so eager to help Kouyou after almost degrading him for taking this case? The way he spoke seemed fake and a warning in it's self, but if he was the only other one with information about Shiroyama, then this was his best shot. For now.
Kouoyu's mind travels to other thoughts about Mastumoto, gripping the piece of paper in his pocket even tighter. For a second, he considered asking Ruki but stopped himself knowing he's probably read the same things and had all the same questions. It just seemed pointless.
