I woke up to the sounds of fire trucks and water being sprayed at me. I open my eyes, blinking a few times to find Grayson and Ethan on top of me, obnoxiously trying to get me to wake up.
Clearly, I must have fallen asleep after my conversation with Gray. It definitely ended weirdly and somehow made me feel insecure. And different.
For now I couldn't dwell on that fact as I had two boys to kill. "Ethan," I say angrily, "Who the fuck do you think you are? I'm gonna kill you," I screamed as I jumped up and bolted to him. As he ran to the dock I made sure I ran in front of him. He was running and then tripped into the water. Oh I don't know how? Just kidding, it was me. It's always me. He fell into the water belly flop style which must've hurt. That's what he gets.
Gray came up to my side and put an arm on my shoulder which sent tingle all over my body. I couldn't help it. Whether we were dating or not, he made me feel this way. It felt good and it felt familiar. It felt like we were dating again.
Then he took his hand off of my shoulder which basically crushed me as I tried to put my focus into something else, like the fact that Ethan was currently sputtering in the pool and I was laughing for the first time in years.
It made me feel happy. I was happy. I was really happy. "Hey Gray! Wanna leave him here and go get ice cream?"
"Leaving my brother in the lake?" he said, his eyebrow raised in question. Then his goofy grin came on his face, the one that I loved. "Let's do it."

As we reached the ice cream shop, I couldn't stop laughing. Grayson was telling me about how two girls stole his shirt at this beach. "Mel it isn't funny. I was shirtless the entire time and it was super cold."
Between laughs I said, "That's pretty funny." He playfully shoved me and then unlocked the car door. We got out and he let me in the store first, like a gentleman would.
I heard chatter and I immediately knew what it was about. Obviously people found out that the Dolan twins are coming back to New Jersey. A lot of girls were looking at him dreamily, which pissed me off for a lot of reasons. I still wasn't comfortable with the fact that he could date any girl in the world and I wouldn't be able to stop him. It was like we slated everything of the past. The past is the past. I have to move on.
I quickly go up to the counter and look for my favorite flavor, chocolate chip cookie dough. I found the flavor and immediately turned to Grayson. "Remember our fight Gray?" He seem to not be paying attention to what I was saying but instead to a brunette girl who is very pretty and was sitting a few tables away. She was clearly with a friend and was laughing at a joke. My blood immediately started to boil. I couldn't stop Grayson from looking at any girl, he was no longer mine.
As if not hearing a word I said, he confident strolled over to the girl's table. He touched her hand and she started to laugh again. "Mack, it's so good seeing you," he said grinning and looking at her.
"Gray, it was so good seeing you," she said as she stood on her tip toes to give him a kiss on the cheek. That killed me. Was he dating her? How does he even know her? It was all so confusing and I knew I had to turn my attention back to the employee behind the counter asking for my order. "Sorry I was distracted uh chocolate chip cookie dough in a cone please," I said all of a sudden feeling tired.
"No problemo, miss," said a boy my age as he walked to get a cone. He was good looking. He had blonde hair that flopped just over his eye. It was a honey gold blonde. He had the clearest bluest eyes I've ever seen. They were mesmerizing. He was clearly built probably worked out every day. His employee T-shirt tightly fit around his muscles and I couldn't help but stare.
"Here you go," the cute boy said.
"Thank you. Here's a tip," I say as I give him a five dollar bill. I continued to look for a second more.
"What's your name?" he asks me.
"Melrose, my name is Melrose," I say shyly.
"Sorry, I couldn't help but stare. You're very pretty and I know I'm being kind of straightforward. Do you want to come to a party at the beach tonight? I feel like you would fit in," he said kind of shy himself, like he usually knew what to say but something took his breath away.
Usually, I would never go with the random boy to a party. I'm usually very cautious but summer is the time to let go right? I'm trying to move on from Grayson. I should see my options and see what's in store for me. Maybe it's my new found confidence, maybe it's the excitement of finding a new adventure, maybe it was the fact that this cute boy was asking me to a party, maybe it was me trying to prove to Gray that I could get over him, maybe I was jealous of his girl but I couldn't help but say,
Yes.
