I woke up with a smile on my face.
"Good morning, life!" I said dreamily. "It's a wonderful day! The first day of school!"
I know, I know. Pretty unrealistic. But I've made it a self-tradition to wake up with those exact words and actions since the first day of kindergarten.
Don't worry, though. I actually covered my head with my pillow when I heard my alarm clock.
I stretched and got out of bed, throwing on the outfit I had picked out the night before. I made my bed and headed into the bathroom to brush my hair and teeth.
I brushed my strawberry red hair out of my green eyes. I was wearing a lime green tank top with a white flowered skirt. I french braided my wavy hair and decided to head downstairs for breakfast.
I then grabbed my backpack and headed out the door.
"Bye mom!" I called as the door shut behind me.
I walked to school since it was nearby. I smiled as a butterfly flew by and let my fingertips brush against the leaves that hung low on the trees.
I suddenly saw a patch of green light on the sidewalk. The sun seemed to glow and make everything it shone on seem magical.
I slowed down and closed my eyes as the sun reached my face. When I next opened my eyes, I was in a tree.
"What?!" I exclaim, clueless.
Too busy focused on the fact that I was suddenly in a tree, I hardly noticed the flowers and leaves circling around me.
So I regretted looking up.
"What is happening?" I ask out loud in frustration and confusion.
"The same reaction every time, honestly!"
I jump as I hear a loud male voice behind me. Then I jump again as I hear a feminine voice follow.
"Well you can't expect the girl to not freak out,"
"She's lucky she gets this opportunity," grumbles the male.
"Oh hush now, we both know humans don't know about the -"
I hear a rustle and some shushing behind me before I gathered the courage to turn around.
I see a black cat with little golden eyes and a small blue bird.
I stare and they stare back, and both the bird and cat seemed to exchange a silent agreement, and the bird straightens up (can birds even do that?) and out of it's beak slips out the cool male voice I had heard mere seconds ago.
"Uh... Hola?"
My eyes widen and I back up as far as I can on the tree branch I was on while pointing at the bird and stuttering.
"Wha - y-you - bird! - You - you talk!" I manage to squeak.
"Actually, he's not the only one," the female voice perks up from the cat.
"I-I don't understand," I say, panicking.
The bird rolls his eyes.
"They never do," he mutters.
"What was that, Cachak?" The cat asks loudly.
"NOTHING, jeez, Dunzie." The bird - or rather, Cachak, - replies, clearly annoyed.
"Am - am I missing something here?" I peep.
"Oh no, darling, just - just... " The cat that was apparently Dunzie, trails off.
Cachak facepalms - facewings?
"See now? You got us caught! What'll Ziga say?"
"Well, you're the one that couldn't keep quiet!" Dunzie retorts.
"Can someone please explain this all to me?" I cut in.
They both stare at me.
"Well, actually-" Cachak starts.
"You're supposed to figure that out by yourself!" Dunzie cuts in.
"So we should, uh, we'll just... A bien tôt!" Cachak says flying away.
"Wait!" I say, but Dunzie's gone too.
"Ugh! What does a-been-tut even mean?" I ask out loud, and as my hand comes down on the bark of the tree, I fall out.
I brace myself for impact with the sidewalk, but it doesn't come. And I realize I'm in a bubble.
Wait. A bubble?!
I poke the barrier between me and the sidewalk and - surprise, surprise - it pops.
But I still don't feel the sidewalk. I open my eyes and see green only. I walk around, not sure where I am.
"It's about time," I hear.
Suddenly I can't see or hear anything.
What is going on?
"Oh, don't worry. You'll see. Soon enough."
The feeling of falling. Endlessly. I scream, and the last thing I hear is laughter.
