Swara felt like she had entered into a parallel universe. She stood, frozen as chaos erupted around them. A reporter was kicked out of the restaurant but it was too late. Sid had made himself scarce after Sanskaar sent a glare his way.

The little woman who Swara now knew was Sujata Maheshwari, Sanskaar's mother, turned to look at her with tears streaming down her face. Swara had heard that Sujata was a very snobby, egotistical woman who has never shown any form of emotion besides hatred and disgust towards others but the woman in front of her seemed to be the complete opposite.

She was looking at Swara with tearful eyes and a happy smile, that Swara couldn't help but return until she laid her eyes on Sanskaar and her smile dropped. Sujata ran to Swara and pulled her into her arms. Swara was amazed at the strength of the hug. Sujata pulled back and laid a hand on Swara's cheek and Swara felt warmth rush into her.

Sujata had not yet said a word but Swara could see the kindness resting in her eyes.
"You are so beautiful! I can see in your eyes that you have a kindness in you that neither of my son's previous friends have ever had. You are perfect for my son", she gushed.

Swara eyes widened and she looked up to see Sanskaar staring back at her, she was desperately sending signals to him begging him to say something, but Sanskaar was speechless.

Sujata, unaware of the turmoil, was already ordering a bottle of champagne to celebrate the good news. There were so many emotions and thoughts running through Swara's mind that she could not even understand what was happening. The waiter had already poured the drink into Sanskaar and his mothers glass and was just about to pour a glass for her when she snapped out of her thoughts.

"No!" she cried out. Sanskaar and Sujata just looked at her and the waiter froze, with the bottle in midair. Swara could feel her cheeks getting warm under their gaze but she carried on talking to explain her outburst.
"Sorry, I meant to say, no thank you. I don't , I mean I can't-"

"OH MY GOD!" Sujata shouted. "You are already pregnant, aren't you?" she whispered loudly.
"What? No! No! No! I just haven't not eaten anything at all today and plus I don't really drink so that's why I refused." she explained quickly. Sujata looked disappointed at first but she nodded.
"Cheers to the engaged couple! I hope that you have a beautiful marriage and that the love that you share keeps growing and growing every day. Love each other each day like it's your last. I wish you all the happiness in the world. I finally get to have another daughter to pamper!" Sujata toasted.

Swara waited for Sanskaar to correct his mother and tell her the truth but he stayed quiet. He looked deep in thought and to her absolute horror, he lifted his glass to the toast. Swara looked at him as if he had gone mad.
What was he doing? This is wrong on so many different levels! What kind of asshole gives his mother false hopes?

She opened her mouth to correct Sujata but Sanskaar grabbed onto her thigh. Swara shocked at his move, put her hand on top of his to try and remove it. She sent a glare towards him and when he refused to cooperate, she pinched him. Sanskaar quickly released his hold on her thigh, and captured her hand. He lifted his hands from under the table and lightly brushed his lips onto her hand. Swara's heart stopped, her breath hitched whilst Sujata smiled in happiness.

Sanskaar looked at Swara's water glass and signalled her to lift it. When she didn't, he tightened his hand in hers, causing pain to rush up her arm. Swara lifted her glass and joined into the toast.

She sent a stern look towards Sanskaar. What did you just do?

What did I just do?
Sanskaar couldn't remember when he had seen his mother this happy. He felt guilty for lying to her but he could not help feeling happy as well to see her this excited. Her eyes had a twinkle in them and her cheeks were flushed and healthy looking.

Since his return from his boarding school, his mother and fathers relationship had been strained to say the least. Sanskaar's mother blames her husband for what her son had been through, and since the incident they had not been on good terms. But what really caused the drift between his parents was when Sanskaar's father Ram had sent him away to camp, omitting the fact that it was actually a military base. Sujata was enraged with this information but by the time she had found out, the damage had already been done.
Her beloved son had changed. Gone was the innocent young boy and the one who returned was more cold, withdrawn and angry with the world.

Sanskaar knew his parents loved each other but they also fought with equal passion. Sujata had forgiven Ram on his deathbed, and although Sanskaar was not around when it happened, he was fully aware of the aftermath. That was the first and only time his calm and composed mother had broken down and cried for hours, until today.

Sanskaar knew it was wrong to give his mother false hopes, but all he could think about was the smile on her face, that he had inadvertently caused. All the tragedy that has befall on his family had caused every member to drift apart from each other, causing his mother to fall into depression and only have the support of her daughter, Uttara. Sujatas doctor had informed Sanskaar that the only way to get his mother out of her depression was to support her and make sure she stays happy at all time.

A good businessman knows when to take an opportunity when its presented itself, a great one would create one himself. And Sanskaar had just created the perfect opportunity. Until now he had failed his responsibilities as a son and this was the perfect opportunity to redeem himself. So what if he needed to use Swara in the process?
He would pay her to be his wife, not like she has any other option. He wanted to break her and now he's got the golden chance.
Killing two birds with one stone.
