Mr. Park sighed and placed his hands on his hips. "Now, what's up with you two today? You usually share the work and talk to each other all class period. Did something happen?"
Mark was the one to answer. It'd usually be the other way. "No. Nothing's wrong."
Mr. Park was very frustrated at this point. He decided to leave it alone since he obviously wasn't getting anything out of the two.
"Alright, fine. Just go back inside then."
The three of them walked back into the classroom. All the kids stared at them, wondering what they had been called out for.
Word had spread like wild fire after what happened earlier in the hallway. Jackson's friends, JB and BamBam, eyed Mark as he walked to 8th period. He could hear Hyuna's friends gossiping about the whole situation before class.
It was painfully awkward for Mark and Jackson after Mr. Park pulled them outside. People whispered about the two when they got back in. They were forced to talk with each other about the project, discussing who would do research on what. Mark really wished he would've kept walking in the hallway.
Now he was heading home but since it was Friday, him, Yugyeom, and their friend Youngjae were going to meet up at a café.
Yugyeom and Youngjae were already there when Mark arrived. He went to the counter and ordered a mocha frappe, then sat down with his friends.
"Hey. I heard about what Jackson said to you... Is everything okay?" Youngjae wasn't the type to follow with gossip, but this time nobody could help but to talk about it.
Yugyeom hit him on the arm. "Don't bring it up!"
"No I'm fine, really. I knew he was a jerk anyway." Deep down, Mark knew he wasn't fine. He thought he was finally getting to know Jackson better. He thought he was different.
"Really? But you guys really seemed to be-"
"I said I'm fine." Mark didn't want to hear what anyone had to say about it. He felt too embarrassed.
The waiter came with Mark's order. The three were silent until he spoke up, "So let's talk about you two. Found that secret admirer yet, Yugyeom?"
The younger sighed, "Nope. And it's killing me. I don't think anyone's ever had a crush on me before."
"I'm sure someone has."
"Yeah. Maybe a girl in elementary school. But never a boy."
Youngjae looked like he had something on his mind.
"What'cha thinking about?" Mark wanted to know if Youngjae had a crush on anyone.
"Nothing. It's just that I haven't found anyone to take to the dance yet."
Yugyeom almost jumped out of his seat. "Oh yeah! I forgot about that! Now I really need to find out who this guy is."
"Nah. The dance isn't for another three weeks. I'm sure you'll be fine." Mark was in no rush. He didn't really like any of the boys at school. They were either assholes, or they were already taken.
Youngjae interrupted Mark's thoughts. "Anyways, what are we doing tomorrow? I don't wanna sit at home all day."
"Go to a movie?" Yugyeom suggested.
"Nah. We went last week."
Suddenly, Mark remembered something. "Isn't there a carnival this weekend? We should go there."
"Good idea! I haven't been to a carnival in forever. How does that sound Youngjae?"
"Sounds good." It still seemed like he had something on his mind.
Oh well. Mark checked his phone: there was a text from his mom.
Mom
I'm gonna need you home early.
Please get here as soon possible.Mark's heart started beating rapidly. His mom had never asked him of anything like this before. He was getting worried.
"I gotta go. My mom wants me home early. Bye guys." He rushed out of the café before the two could say their goodbyes.
Mark's house was about two blocks away, and he ran faster than he ever had before. When he got to his house, he couldn't believe his eyes.
He saw his mother and father in the living room with Jackson's parents.
