At school, everyone was getting excited for the upcoming Fall Dance. Posters were plastered up everywhere, showcasing the October festivities. Yugyeom and Youngjae still didn't know about Mark and Jackson's relationship. As they were talking at lunch, the topic of dating popped up.
"So, who are guys gonna go to the dance with?" Yugyeom asked, stuffing his face with food.
Mark and Youngjae looked at each other. They knew the other's secrets, and at the same time they both said, "nobody". Yugyeom looked up, obviously catching the mistake.
"Why did you say that at the same time...? Do guys, like, have ESPN or something?" (Mean Girls reference *finger guns*)
"What are you two hiding?" He added suspiciously.
Youngjae let Mark speak so it wouldn't seem weird again. "Nothing. It was just a coincidence..." He took a sip of water, desperately wanting Yugyeom to change the subject.
"Mmkay... Well for the second time, who do want to ask you out?" Yugyeom was being quite persistent. He and BamBam were the same: two little gossip sponges.
"Well I don't want anybody to ask me...." he prodded Mark in the side. "How about you?" Youngjae looked at Mark mischievously.
Mark returned the look. "Not really... Are you sure you don't want anyone to ask you?" He prodded Youngjae hard in the side, making him wince. It was a common occurrence for the two to tease each other, but Yugyeom knew this time it was different.
"You guys are acting weird today..." the youngest said as he got up to throw the trash away.
Mark and Youngjae looked at each other, not knowing if they should tell Yugyeom. If they did, he'd go and tell BamBam, then BamBam would tell Jackson and JB. Of course Jackson didn't need to know Mark had feelings for him, but JB and Youngjae were finally warming up to one another. Mark was afraid it'd ruin everything.
As the boys walked together to 6th period, Youngjae spoke up. "We should do something this weekend. I know it's only Monday, but we haven't hung out together for a while. I really wanna do something Saturday."
Mark thought about the last time the three of them hung out. That was when they went to the carnival. When Yugyeom and BamBam kissed. When Jackson apologized and gave Mark his beloved pink bear. Oh yeah, that's also when Youngjae got his turtle Coco. A lot happened the last time they were together.
"Yeah. Let's do something. Since Friday's the dance we'll go out Saturday, then we can sleep on Sunday!" Yugyeom said. He always thinks ahead.
"Mark?" Youngjae looked over, wondering what the older boy was thinking about.
"Huh? Oh, yeah. That's a good idea. I'll think of something this week."
8th period went well. Mark and Jackson finished their PowerPoint, so they just talked for the rest of class. When the bell rang, Youngjae took Mark and Yugyeom with him to his house to do to homework together. They were excited about that. They're always excited to ride in Youngjae's car. Not to mention, they love his mom's cooking.
Their homework was easy, so they got it done pretty quickly. Afterward, they gossiped, listened to music, and ate candy. It was 8:00 when Youngjae took Mark and Yugyeom home. They lived about ten minutes away from each other, so of course they drove.
Mark was to be dropped off first. On their way there, they blasted SHINee and BigBang songs. Passing the school, they stopped at an alleyway after something caught their attention. Someone was getting beaten up.
"Should we do something?" Youngjae asked from the driver's seat.
"No way! We might get in the middle of some drug exchange!" Yugyeom yelled from the back.
Mark focused on the victim. He caught a glimpse of blonde hair. One of the attackers threw him to the ground. Jackson! He got out of the passenger's seat and ran over to the scene. Yugyeom and Youngjae exchanged a glance before following.
Mark punched one of attackers in the jaw, making sure he was disoriented for a bit. Yugyeom helped Jackson up and Youngjae pushed the other attacker down. Mark pinned the first guy against the wall of the convenience store in front of the alleyway. Throwing one last punch, Mark took his hands off the boy's shoulders. Mark was skinny, but he was also strong. The two attackers fled, not daring to look back.
Mark looked at Jackson. "What the hell was all that?" He asked, trying to catch his breath.
The younger looked down. "It was nothing..."
Mark couldn't help but to hug Jackson. "Let's get you home..." he whispered.
On their way to Mark's house, Mark looked into the mirror on the side of his door. He saw Jackson in the backseat with a busted lip and few bruises. "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear". That was for sure...
