Chap. 8-First day, and already trouble

I had gotten my schedule in the mail the week before, so I knew where, or at least roughly, where to go. I looked at my schedule. Math. I look up at at John. "What do you have?"

"Math," He says while opening the door, "Why?"

"I was wondering, because I don't know how to get around..."

"Sure, where are you going?"

"Math."

"Lucky you!"

As we went down the hallways, I noticed that everyone seemed to be in groups. Some groups had only girls, others with only boys. There were groups with both genders, but they ended up splitting up at certain points anyways. I particularly noticed a mixed group that was large and all seemed to be going in the same direction-toward us. I think John noticed me looking at them, because he whispered to me from the corner of his mouth, "Fluffy towels-aka, populars."

We kept walking, but the 'fluffy towels' had a different plan. "Hey you," Started a tall boy who had brown-blonde gelled hair, "Ya, you. What are you doing on our ground!"

"Doing what I'm doing, my friend."

I had noticed, while they were walking past, that Abigail was with them. I had thought she would be my friend, but apparently not. She barely even glanced at me. I decided to talk to her about it at the next dance class.

After school, I meet up with John.

"Hi," he says looking at me. I realize that he has a sad look on his face, and seems to want to be alone. "Can you hang out after school?"

"I'm not sure, I'll have to ask my parents."

"Ah."

"I see my parents across the street, I can go ask them now."

"Sure."

As I walk over to the car, Lewis and Hannah wave at me. I knock on the window, and Hannah rolls it down. "Yes, ma'am?"

"Can I hang out with a friend?"

"Sure, but keep your cellphone on you. Do you need a ride?"

"I think we'll walk."

"Ok."

"Bye!"
