Did I just say that out loud?
"Yeah, you did," the beautiful boy said, laughing. I face-palmed. Why am I such an idiot? Since when did I say things out loud?
"I'm sorry, I'm not normally like this," I said, looking down. He chuckled.
"It's okay." We stood in awkward silence for a few seconds. "So...are you here alone?"
"Yeah, I have no friends," I blurted out. Oh great, Lyra, now he probably thinks you're a loner. You always find some way to mess things up, don't you? Wait. Had he just used one of those lines to get me to go out with him?
"Awh, I'm sure thats not true." I didn't say anything.
"Well," he said, "I'm Sam by the way."
He stuck out his hand and waited for me to shake it. I awkwardly shook it.
"Lyra," I said quietly, still looking down.
"So, come here often?" I could see he was trying to hold back a laugh. I'm not sure why though. Had I forgotten my pants?
Then I realized, he was using a pickup line. Did that mean he was interested? I wouldn't know. Not many people were interested in me.
You have a boyfriend. A little voice in the back of my head commented.
Oh right, I was forgetting about Scott.
"Uhm...no...I don't really like coming out," I finally confessed.
"Well, we have to change that, don't we?" I looked at him and tilted my head to the side.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, you now have a friend," Sam smiled at me. "Now lets go get something to eat."
We found a McDonalds and after getting our food, we sat down. Was this a date? I mean, we were sitting alone and eating. Didn't that qualify as a date?
Why did I seem so unexperienced. I had been on tons of dates before.
"So, wanna play twenty-one questions?" Sam asked. I nodded.
"You first," I said. He thought for a couple seconds. God, his thinking face was so cute! If I told him that, he'd probably run away screaming. Why? Because I'm idiot.
"How old are you?" he finally asked. I really didn't want to answer that question. Sam could be a potential friend. I don't want to ruin that just because of our age difference.
"I'm seventeen," I told him.
"Awh! You're a baby!" He cooed. I glared at him and he laughed. "Sorry. You're a woman. I just turned nineteen in December."
"I turned seventeen in September."
"I'm one year and eight months older than you!" Sam was literally grinning from ear to ear.
"Whatever," I rolled my eyes playfully. "My turn. What do you want to do with your life?"
"I dropped out of college," he admitted shamefully. "But, I teach children art three times a week and I work at my parents tattoo parlor."
