"Thanks for the dinner again," Chucky says as he steps out of the door with me,
I turn and smile at Joe and Mary, "We had a nice time, thank you."
"We'll see you around!" Joe says,
I nod with Chucky,
We exchange a few and finally, the couple closes their door as Chucky and I walk back to our house.
"I'm glad we didn't take the car," I say,
He takes my hand as we walk home, "Yeah?"
"Yeah."
He pulls me closer, "Enjoying the romantic walk home with me?" he teases, I smile as a response,
He looks down at me and I look up at him. We both don't say anything. I look away before he says anything. I know he's going to bring it up.
"That was nice," I say, "I had a nice time,"
He clears his throat, "Me too,"
I chuckle, "You're good at pretending, too."
Chucky nods, "Well you said we needed to make a good impression,"
"Yeah, well it was nice to pretend we're normal for once."
"Normal?" he asks,
"Yeah, you know, like we're down to earth and all." I suddenly chuckle, "You almost blew our cover, too!"
His eyebrows are furrowed,
"You have to admit that was funny though, pretending?"
"Not all the time." He says,
"What?"
Chucky holds my hand tighter, "About the wedding thing?"
I knew he was gonna mention that. I stop walking and let go of his hand, "I'm sorry?"
Chucky turns and stops walking, too. He looks at me with a confused look. He shrugs, "Come on, you probably thought about it, too?"
Is he serious?
"No," I say and cross my arms,
"No?" He asks, confused than before, "What do you mean no?"
"What we did back there, that was just to get rid of any suspicion, Chucky." He blinks a few times when he hears me say his name,
"Fine, damn." He responds, "I didn't mean it much anyway." He states,
I start walking, "Good."
We both stay quiet as I walk ahead of him. I can't have him think that way. He's been acting weird these past few days by being sweet and all. This is the last straw. I know he's just doing it to make up for last time and I can't have that. It would have been better if he was genuine but I know he probably just wants something else.

My body heavily sinks down in the tub as I close my eyes, trying to enjoy the warm water. I needed to do something to at least rid of the upsetting thoughts.
When I chose to stay with Chucky, I knew the consequences. I know he could never completely offer what a man could in a romantic relationship. Sure, he's oozing with sex appeal and charm but he's genuinely loveable. Sure, one can argue that he's nowhere near loveable after learning about his past. I know all of that. It's not a surprise to me.
But pretending to be someone he's not cannot make up for that.
I just want him to be himself. Sure, I get sad about it but I can learn to accept it.
"Hey,"
I instantly open my eyes and see Chucky leaning against the door pane, watching over me. I say "Hey" back. I look around me and watch the candle flames dancing in the dim bathroom.
"You didn't even ask me to join you."
"I didn't want to bother you."
"Yeah, well, you bothering me doing nothing is really...nothing."
I look away not even trying to make an excuse.
"Listen, I don't know what I did earlier that made you act that way, but I'm just here to apologize."
"It's all right."
"You sure? Do I..." he crouches down beside the tub and moves his face closer, "need to beg to see a smile on that pretty face?"
I try my best not to. I hate that he knows I find stupid cheesy lines annoying...and that it makes me laugh with it.
"Well you certainly don't need to use cheesy ass lines on me."
"And yet it makes you laugh at how stupid it is." He laughs and reaches his hand over my knee, caressing it.
He kisses me and I easily give in and kiss him back. But Charles pulls away slowly and keeps close as he whispers, "The things you make me do."
My face falls, "Charles..." I look at him, "That's the thing. I don't want you to do things because I 'make you' do it."
"No, that's not what I meant."
"I wasn't just talking about that. I know you're trying your best to make it up to me by acting all sweet and trust me, I enjoy it, but I don't want it if it's not genuine."
He scoffs, "It was genuine! You cant be calling me a liar?"
"I'm not--I just--if you want something, ask me straight. Ask me directly. Don't play with me."
"I wasn't, Meg. Why would you even think that way? I mean, what else do I have to hide?"
I pause. He's right.
"Think about that, Meg." he continues, "I'm not playing. This? This whole thing is me."
"All right."
"Ya really shouldn't be worrying this much."
I pause and gaze into his blue eyes. I watch how the candle flame dances, reflecting against the dark core of his eyes.
"Who are you, really? What have you done to Chucky?"
He slowly reaches for my hand, "I don't know but...it feels right. Doesn't it?"
I reach in for his lips and kiss him deeply. Whatever it is, I'll accept it, just as I promised.
