"Are you sure about this, Corin?" Her mother, Kara, asked her.

"Of course, Mom. I need to get out in the world, make friends," Corin told her worried mother softly, as to ease the pain that her one and only child was going off to boarding school.

Kara started to cry silently. "You- you promise me you wo-won't get hurt," Kara sobbed into her daughter's embrace. Corin smiled gently and stroked her mother's ebony hair until it was just sniffles that remained. Corin pulled her mother away and hopped her by the shoulders as she spoke.

"I can't promise anything, but for you, Mom, I'll try," Corin smiled weakly at her mother.

"Oh Corin!" And her mother burst into fresh tears as she shuffled her daughter off towards the scarlet train engine. After making sure that Corin would write every day, Kara, still sniffling as she went, turned on the spot and apparated away. Corin smiled lovingly at the void her mother once filled before tuning to the train with a grim determination. There were only two minutes left until the train would leave, Corin needed to find a spot soon. She hopped on board immediately, stowing her trunk away easily . She paced through the corridors, and finished just as the train began to pull out. There were no empty seats.

Corin sighed and decided that it was just going to have to be time that she made friends. The compartment in front of her, near the back of the train was full of four people chatting conversationally. Corin worked up her courage before opening the glass door. All eight eyes turned directly to her scar.

"Mind if I sit here?" Corin asked politely. The four people's eyes snapped up to her face.

"Erm..." a red headed boy said glancing toward the black haired boy, almost for confirmation . A bushy haired girl smiled at Corin genuinely and nodded. Corin let out a sigh of relief.

"Oh thank god! Everyone else has told me no," Corin sighed, only slightly stretching the truth. She sat next to a nervous looking boy and across from the room the red head, the black haired boy, and the girl who had let her sit with them.

"You don't look like a first year," the read head blurred out, his eyes combing her developed body, pausing on her scar, and resting on her vibrant blue eyes. Corin threw her head back, her scar stretching to a white, and she laughed heartily.

"No, I'm not a first year. I'm a fourth year, my mom homeschooled me until now," Corin smiled at the red headed boy.

"Why?" The black haired boy asked, snapping out of the trance he seemed to be in. "Sorry, erm, if you don't mind me asking, why are you coming to Hogwarts now?" Corin grew silent, and her eyes misty. She shook her head and smiled again.

"Did you know that homeschooling happens to be really bad for your social life? Also, my mom wasn't a super good teacher. She could only teach me so much."

The boy next to Corin burst out, "I like your hair."

"Thanks," Corin smiled genuinely.

"Well, I can speak for all of us when I say you're welcome to be out friend," the bushy haired girl said gently.

"Really!?" Corin squeaked. She coughed deeply and then reoriented in a deep voice. "I mean, really?" Everyone laughed at her awkward attempt at covering up her excitement.

"I'm Hermione Granger, that's Ron Weasley, Harry Potter, and Neville Longbottom. Welcome to Hogwarts," Hermione said. Corin's eye's widened.

"Wait... you're the Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and Neville Longbottom?" Corin asked. In her desperate state, she had learned of the the four iconic Hogwarts kids. "Sorry," she blushed. "Lisa Turpin's my neighbor, I get her to tell me all the Hogwarts gossip."

"Did you ever say your name?" Harry asked, preventing an inevitable awkward silence.

"No, I don't think so. I'm Corin Westerfalls."

"I hope you like adventures," Neville warned. Corin winked at him.

"Well, you're lucky then, because we have a ton of adventures," Ron grinned. Everyone in the compartment laughed.

"Once, when I was little, my rabbit ran away into the forest by my house. I went after it and ran into a bear. After that, I think my mom was convinced I was crazy, because I kept asking her for a pet bear," Corin sighed remembering simpler times. "Needless to say, I did not get one."

They went on, sharing stories, hardly noticing that the lamps had gone on and that it was dark outside. Hermione pointed out that they should put their robes on, and the girls left the compartment to change, leaving the boys to themselves.

"It will be lovely having another girl around," Hermione told Corin as they left the bathrooms. Corin hummed in agreement. "What house are you going for?"

Corin thought for a moment. "Well, really, any of them sound good- even Slytherin, to be honest. The people and the head of house don't seem very nice or good themselves, but you can't have everything in life. Obviously I'd love Gryffindor-" But she was cut off by a prowling, attractive, blonde boy sneering at her.

"Really? You'd want to be in that dump of a house?"

"Malfoy," Hermione narrowed her eyes slightly. There was a hint of fear growing larger in Malfoy's eyes, but it remained small enough to keep him from leaving.

"Mudblood! I didn't know you were already friends with this lovely lady," Malfoy winked at her. Corin felt a stew of anger, embarrassment, and attraction. She whipped out her wand. That word- she had heard it in her house growing up. It was what her father called her mother when he was angry.

"Don't you dare use that word in front of me," Corin hissed at him.

"Anything for the lady," Malfoy bowed and kissed her hand, gently, before smirking as he sauntered away. Hermione was throughly stunned.

"I've never seen him act like that," she muttered, before shaking her head in a clearing sort of motion. "Thank you, by the way."

"It wasn't a problem," Corin said. "That boy." There was anger in her tone, but it wasn't as hateful as she had intended it to be. A flush crept up her neck.

"Be careful with Malfoy, Corin. He might seem okay now, but he's incredibly nasty," Hermione frowned after Malfoy. Corin stood there, thunderstruck, as she felt Hermione leave her, staring after the boy with the platinum blonde hair.

A/N- No, this is not a Draco Malfoy love story. I want her to play the court a little- like a normal teenager. No spoilers! Comment who you think Corin should be with, she might not even end up with Malfoy! I have no idea where this story is going.
