Today’s the second meeting in Hollywood Arts. I think I have rehearsed enough, I chose the song ‘Stay the Night’ by Hayley Williams.

When I woke up this morning, I found a note on the dining room table. It was from mom, she said she can’t drop me off at school today because she had an early meeting. I guess I’m walking so I better hurry.

I arrived at school about eight in the morning. I was still early, so I decided to tour myself around the school. It’s not quite big but it is commodious inside the rooms. Then, I found the studio where they probably record songs and stuff. The studio was a little bigger other rooms, there was a lot of pictures hanging on the wall and tons of CD displayed on a huge brown shelf.

When I got tired of walking around, I sat on the couch to wait for the others. A few minutes later, a blonde teenage girl arrived and sat on the couch across me. I’m not the type of person who introduces themselves first but I decided to change that attitude this time.

I stared at her for a few seconds, she was staring at her phone. “Uh, hi, I’m Daphne. Are you new here?”

She shifted her gaze to my direction. “Yeah, I’m Heather. Nice to meet you,” she replied with a small smile.

Heather seems nice. We chatted about our likes and dislikes about music, favorite songs, and favorite singers.

My eyes widened and I gasped lightly. “Oh my gosh! I love Beyonce too!”

“No way! She’s like my ultimate idol. Oh my gosh!”

“Well, she is perfect you know.”

“Oh, I know right!”

Our conversation was interrupted by the arrival of the others. It was already nine o’clock and the class is about to start. I already told Heather about the homework, she said she’d sing ‘Let It Go’ by Demi Lovato. You know, that overplayed song on MTV or on radios, its one of my faves as well.

Ms. Posey entered the room and say on her chair. “Okay. Everyone remembered the homework, right?” we simply nodded our heads. “Alright, I’ll pick randomly.”

I ducked a little so Ms. Posey wouldn’t pick me to be the first to sing. “Daphne Evans, you’re up first,” Ms. Posey said, raising an eyebrow.

I was surprised but I immediately stood up. “Okay.” I replied, clearing my throat.

Are you gonna stay the night

Doesn't mean we're bound for life

So oh oh oh, are you gonna stay the night.

I am a fire, you're gasoline, come pour yourself all over me

We'll let this place go down in flames only one more time

You kill the lights, I'll draw the blinds

Don't dull the sparkle in your eyes

I know that we were made to break

So what? I don't mind.

Are you gonna stay the night

Are you gonna stay the night

Oh oh oh, are you gonna stay the night?

When I finished, Ms. Posey and Heather started clapping. “Well done, Daphne. You have a very beautiful voice.”

“Thanks, Ms. Posey.” I replied, smiling as I made my way back to my seat.

Ms. Posey called another student. “Oh my gosh, Daphne. You’re amazing!” Heather whispered to me.

“Thanks, I can’t wait to hear you sing. I bet your voice is beautiful as well.”

Heather was called next. And wow, she sounded so great! Her voice was so beautiful and the song she chose was perfect for her.

The others were called afterward and praised by Ms. Posey as well. A few minutes later, we were all finished but Ms. Posey said she has an announcement to make. “I’m announcing this early so you could all prepare for it well. Before this summer class ends, you are all required to record one song with your chosen partner and perform it on stage with your families or friends as your audience.”

Everyone in the room shrieked and gasped, except for the guys though. Heather looked so excited too. “Oh my gosh, Daphne! We should totally be partners!”

“Of course. I wouldn’t say no to that.”

---

The next morning, I was awakened by the delicious smell of pancakes that seems to be coming from downstairs. I got up, washed my face and went down to the kitchen. As I was suspecting, I found mom making pancakes for breakfast.

When mom saw me entering the kitchen, she immediately smiled. “Good morning, honey. How was your sleep last night?”

“Same as usual,” I replied, sitting on the stool. “Guess what, mom?”

“What is it?” she simply asked.

“I met a new friend at school, her name’s Heather.”

“Aw, that’s great, honey. I’m glad you made some friends already,” Mom proudly stated. “Why don’t you invite her to come over for lunch next week?”

“Great idea. She’d love that!” I replied.

Its Saturday today which means mom has no work and we can go wherever we want. I told my mom that I wanted to go to the mall later and do some shopping with her, she immediately said yes.

On our way to the mall, I told my mom about the final activity for us on Hollywood Arts. She was so excited that she almost lifter her hands from the steering wheel. Goodness, my mom is very supportive obviously which is why I love her so much.

“Mom, let’s go to Forever 21. I need to buy new shoes,” I said, hoping she’d fall for my puppy dog face.

She looked at me for a few seconds and sighed, finally giving in. “Fine, but I’m choosing the color.”

I smiled. “No problem.”

Then we continued shopping on Guess and took a little break to eat at Yellow Cab. After eating, we headed to the parking lot. While walking to where mom parked the car, my eyes saw someone who looks familiar.

“Daphne! Oh my gosh, you shop here too?” Heather greeted, full smile on her tanned face.

“Yeah. Heather, this is my mom,” I said, introducing them to each other. “And mom, this is Heather. My new friend.”

“Nice to meet you, Mrs. Evans,” Heather said politely.

“Nice to meet you too, Heather,” Mom smiled at her then turned to me. “Daphne, I’ll just put these heavy bags in the car. I’ll wait for you there, okay?”

“Okay, mom.” I replied. Mom said goodbye to Heather.

When mom was far enough, I excitedly told Heather that we’re invitng her over to our house next week and she immediately said yes. After that, I went to where mom is and got inside the car.

It was already nine o’clock when we got home. While mom was parking her car inside the garage, I noticed a large truck in front of our old neighbor’s house, and a few people carrying furnitures into the house. It looks like someone has already bought the house which means we’ve got a new neighbor.
