Yesterday, I called Heather right away and told her about my mom’s early gift. Basically, her response was her trademark shriek and scream. I can surely tell that she was happy for me too. And tonight, I’m going to show her my new car. Oh my, she’s gonna freak out when she sees it!
I was in the kitchen helping my mom cook dinner when the doorbell rang.
Mom instantly shifted her gaze to the front door. “That might be Heather,” she said.
“I’ll get it.” I replied as I walk toward the front door.
It was only five in the afternoon; Heather was supposed to come over by six. If that’s her on the door, I’ll be surprised. When I opened the door, there was a tall, black guy with a really freaky beard standing by the gate. He’s definitely not Heather, but still it surprised me. He said he was here to deliver a package for my mom, which is odd because mom don’t get packages too often. I signed the papers for my mom and brought it inside.
“Who was that? Is it Heather?” mom asked, coming out of the kitchen and wiping her wet hands with her apron.
“No, that was the delivery guy. It’s a package for you, mom,” I replied, pointing the little brown box that I placed on top of the table.
“Oh, that must be the gift from Mrs. Osment, one of my clients.”
“Gift? For what?”
“It’s a thank you gift for a job well done, as she has told me.”
“Aw, congrats, mom!”
She gave me a warm hug. “Thank you, Daphne.”
Our mother-daughter moment was interrupted when we heard the oven’s beeping sound, which means the lasagna is ready. I’m pretty sure Heather will love my mom’s specialty.
I was watching Spongebob Squarepants in the living room when the doorbell rang. Now, it’s definitely Heather on the door. She was carrying a pink backpack. “Hi Daphne!”
Before I could greet her back, mom came out of the kitchen. “Oh, hi Mrs. Evans!” Heather greeted.
“Hi, Heather. It’s nice to see you again,” mom said, giving her a quick hug.
“You too, Mrs. Evans,” Heather replied then turned to face me. “Hey, can I go see your car now?”
I looked at my mom and she nodded in approval. Heather followed me to the garage and when I opened the door, she gasped dramatically, as if she was about to faint or something.
“Oh my gosh! It’s gorgeous, Daphne!” she exclaimed.
“I know right? Its perfect,” I replied, staring at my new car.
“I have to be your first passenger. Please?” she pleaded.
“Naw. Sorry, I promised my mom I’d take her first.”
“Oh, okay. Then I’ll be the second passenger,” she said, pulling a puppy dog pout then quickly turned it into a smile.
“Deal.” I replied.
Then we headed inside to eat dinner. As I expected, Heather loved mom’s lasagna. After washing the dishes, Heather and I went upstairs to get pillows and blankets while mom went back to the kitchen to prepare some popcorn.
Tonight we’re going to watch two movies, then gossip about random stuff until midnight, and finally go to sleep. I used to do this with my old friends but we always do it at their houses because mom didn’t have time to join us back then.
Now, I’m glad mom is finally taking some time to bond with me. In fact, she’s going to join our ‘camping trip’ in the living room.
Mom picked the first movie which was ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ just because her ultimate crush, Leonardo DiCaprio is in it. Yeah, I know. He’s a pretty amazing actor. I mean, who doesn’t like him?
