Chapter Three (Aidan's POV)
"Aidan, stop."
The fact that Raven had the balls to say that to me was just fucking amazing. I slammed the front door shut on his face and kept going, ignoring the shouts of protest from the kitchen as I went to the stairs. The front door flew open and Raven was almost at my heels.
"Leave me alone!" I yelled angrily, then whipped his jacket at him, but he caught it before it hit him in the face.
"Aidan, stop," Raven said again, paused when I didn't move, then went on, "Aidan, I didn't mean to hurt you. I just don't trust that guy. Stop being so stubborn and just listen to me."
"Give me one good reason I should listen to you. One of the people who's made fun of me for as long as I can remember, one of the people who treats me like a child, one of the people who disrespects me and humiliates me! Give me one damn good reason why I should ever, ever listen to a word you say!" I snarled viciously, baring my teeth as I clenched my fists.
Raven surprised me by grimacing.
"Because I'm your brother."
I gritted my teeth, then whirled around, heading upstairs to my room where I slammed the door shut and went to the bathroom to bathe. I didn't want to talk, I didn't want to listen, I didn't want to be around people in general.
It wasn't fair.
I finally found someone who didn't treat me like shit, someone I could actually talk to like a friend and they were trying to take that away from me.
Why?
What did I ever do to them?
I wanted to punch something, but instead, I just lit a few lavender candles in the bathroom and stripped my jeans off, filling the tub with warm water as I dumped some bath salt. The air was thick with the smell of lavender and lilac with the faintest tinge of vanilla.
The scents mingled together, calming me down as I finally grunted and dropped myself in the tub, shutting off te water.
I sat there, watching the soap suds float around, doing little dances in the candle light that gave the room an eerie glow to it. I tilted my head back, squeezing my eyes shut, just about to fully relax when there was a knock on my bathroom door.
The anger from before shot back up.
"Go to Hell!" I barked. The door opened anyway and I frowned, sitting up as Zaid came into the room, shutting the door quietly behind him as he raised an eyebrow at me. I grumbled an apology under my breath, bringing my knees up as Zaid came over and sat on one of the steps to the tub, watching me.
"You're doing more yelling lately. What gives?" He asked. I scowled.
"Obviously. It's the same thing."
"So why are you throwing a fit?"
"Because I'm tired of it," I cried, splashing the water as I stretched my legs out, "I'm sick of you people treating me so insignificantly. What's so wrong about me that you have to treat me so differently? Is it because I'm shorter? What? What did I do?" Zaid studied my face for a while, his expression sad. He reached out and ruffled my hair. Normally I would've smacked him away, but the exhaustion caught up with me again.
I just sat there and let him pet my hair for a moment before he withdrew, leaning over the tub to flick some water at me.
"Raven said you almost drowned." He said. I grimaced, trailing a steam of bubbles along the surface of the water.
