I daydreamed about that kiss all day. I didn’t even know him name, but he left a mark on me. I pushed the thought of me and him being together, aside. I just got out of a relationship with Chris, and I thought he was my everything. He was my first everything. He even took my virginity. He meant so much to me, but instead of him, and me it was Shalay, probably the whole school, and me. I heard more rumors about him all day. He was with this girl, that girl, the girl around the corner, the girl up the street. Where was I when all this was going down. I honestly thought I was the only one. Never again will I think that. My music helped me ease some of my anger on the way home. After I pulled the rope above my head, I unloaded the bus and there was Chris standing there waiting.
I sighed as I stepped onto the sidewalk into his face “What do you want?” I asked.
“Rai, I just want to talk.” he asked.
“You got 60 seconds. Go”
“Forreal Rai? Its like that now?” he asked, looking as if I just hurt his feelings. Please.
“You have 55 more seconds.” I said looking at my wrist as If I were wearing a watch.
“Okay, okay. Rai, look, I’m sorry. I’m not even bullshittin’ you, I am sincerely sorry.” He told me. “I didn’t mean to cheat… I.. I don’t know what came over me. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me and…” tears started coming from his eyes. “Please Rai just don’t leave me.” He pulled me into an embrace and I struggled to get away from him, and found my way out.
“Don’t touch me, Chris.” I didn’t realize it, but tears were coming down my face. “You hurt me and that’s was the end of us. You didn’t seem to be sorry during the first round.” I walked away, and he pulled my arm back.
“Please Rai, just hear me out. I have at least 20 more seconds.”
“There is nothing left to say between us. It’s over. I don’t ever want to hear from you again.” I pulled my arm away. “By the way your 20 seconds are up.” I started my journey home.
When I got home. Chris blew my phone up. Apologizing text after text and calling to apologize. I ended up blocking his number, but that did no better. He started to show up everywhere, basically stalking me. He started asking Lynn, and Lisa where I was. He left little notes in my locker. Why is he so persistent? He has Shalay, and damn near every other bitch in the school. Yet he harasses me. I don’t understand.
Some weeks had gone by since then, and decided that I couldn’t take it anymore. I avoided every route that would possibly lead me to him. I even avoided going to my locker. I started carrying a backpack and everything.
So far Tre and I had been hanging out in secret away from everyone. You know how fast things spread at school. So we had met up every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and on the weekend. Maybe for the whole week in I didn’t have tutoring. We had to keep it lowkey at school, so we only met up after certain blocks and came to see each other during separate lunches. It was killing me to know whether we were official or not, but then again I didn’t know if I wanted to jump right back into a serious relationship. I saw Tre walking down the hall during class time, so was I, but I had to use the bathroom. What was his excuse?
I walked past him, like I didn’t see him, but smiled as I did.
“So you don’t see me, boo?” he asked coming slightly closer to me.
“Shhhh.” I told him in a hushed tone. “You know bitches and niggas listening. We gotta keep it lowkey.” I told him.
“Alright, Ms. Lowkey, but you know I’m trying to cuff your cute ass while you playing.”
“Ill see what I can do.” I said smiling slightly and blushing. “But you know when Chris find out, he gone blow a head gasket.”
“Man, I gives no fucks about Chris. He shouldn’t have thrown a way a good thing.” He moved my hair away from my face and smiled at me. “Beautiful self.”
I giggled, as he leaned in for a kiss. I hesitated, but kissed him. It wasn’t one of those small pecks that he usually gave me. It was long, powerful and intimate. Our tongues explored each others mouths as I played in his dreads. I heard someone coming from around the corner, and we stopped. I was so out of breath as was he.
It was Andrew. He shook hands with Tre.
“Whats up, Tre?” he asked, he stopped to look at me and gave me a once over.
“Damn ma, whats yo name?” he asked. I mugged him and rolled my eyes.
“She spoken for, Andrew.” Tre said. “Gone ‘bout your business.”
“By who?” He asked. “You?” he said with a smirk. “We can always share you know?”
“Bye Andrew!” I said with a attitude.
“Damn its like that?” he asked.
“Yeah Its Like That.” I told him
He smiled. “That’s fine. You’ll come around.” He walked away. I looked at Tre and he looked at me and groaned.
“Ill see you after class.” He told me and gave me one last peck on the cheek.
