*Family emergency- my grandmas getting worse, might even be the last time I get to see her*

The text from Madison reads. I click my phone off and gingerly walk to my first class of the day. Madison and Michelle won't be here today. Madison has a family emergency and Michelle is at home with strep throat. I went to visit her last night and she could barely talk it was so bad.

I sit through algebra with an empty seat beside me, Michelle is usually there. Then drama the spot where Madison sits is also vacant. One of the terrible things about no longer being with Jackson is that the friends I made because of him have kind of drifted away. As selfish as it sounds I miss the popular feeling when I'm walking through the halls and everyone moves out of my way because my boyfriend was star quarterback, leading our school to countless victories. But now those old friends give me pitiful looks, as if I'm some wounded puppy. I'm not.

I head down to my locker to put my books away for lunch and there he stands in all his glory, Jackson. A knot forms in my stomach as I roll my eyes and ignore him. He stands tall against my locker door, forbidding me to open it. "Will you just let me explain?" He frowns sulking his shoulders. I manage to open my locker door when he moves, taking notice to my pissed look.

"Jackson, I have a really bad headache and I don't want you to make it worse, so leave me alone." I lock my locker back up after shutting the door.

"Madison and Michelle aren't here." He points out to me.

"Woah, I haven't noticed that.." I sarcastically say, leaving my mouth gaping open. I try to walk past him but all he does is step in my way. I start to see people turning in our direction, probably expecting me to burst in to tears or something; not today.

"So you have no one to sit with!" Jackson ignores my snide sarcasm with his hopeful smile. I haven't thought about who I'm to sit with until he brought it up. Everyday me Madison and Michelle sit at the same table by ourselves, we like it like that. "Come sit with me, please." He pleads with the same pitiful look I've been given all damn morning.

"She can't." Someone cuts in from behind me. Jackson face contorts with a mixture of embarrassment and anger. I spin to find Niall grasping on to his solid black backpack with a sly smile plastered across his face.

"She sitting with me." Niall smiles while looking down at me for approval. I give him a small smile that practically says thank you so much. I hear Jackson groan and he leaves Niall and I there in the hall. "Let's go!" Niall cheerfully says. You'd expect someone with as many tattoos and piercing as him to be brutal, but he's actually quite nice.

Niall leads me to the lunchroom. We stand in the line for food for a minute or two before grabbing our meals. Mine is a chicken burger with fries and his is some sort if sloppy joe. We walk to his table where Liam and Harry sit. I don't bother asking where Louis and Zayn are, I just take a seat beside Harry and chew on my burger.

Harry's head snaps in my direction and he stares me in the eyes for a few seconds before turning to Niall. "Why the hell is she here?" He says pointing to me as if I'm a rodent that needs to be exterminated.

"She has no one to sit with.." Niall shrugs taking a large bite out of his sloppy joe. Liam sits quietly across from me, beside Niall, his eyes raking over my body.

"That's not our problem!" Harry spits. Niall rolls his eyes and ignores the rude comments just as I. I look around the lunchroom to find Jackson sitting with his football friends picking at his burger. He doesn't quirk his usual smile that he has around them. He sits there solemnly playing with his food.

"Can we talk?" I find myself whispering to Harry. He glances at me from the corner of his eye, never once turning his head. He wears the same black shirt, well at least I think it's the same, either that or he has a lot of them. His tattoos cover his arms, and I somehow find myself intrigued.
