The Next Morning

When I arrived at work my mind kept replaying the encounter I had with Mrs. Stevens and the way her eyes smiled when I gave her my opinion. In a way it made me look forward to going to work. It made me feel.

Important

I stared at myself in the restroom mirror bursting with Christmas cheer. "Briefcase. Check. Bright smile. Check. Promotion in the making. Check."

For a minute or two, I practiced my facial expressions "Ha ha ha of course I'll accept a job here. Thank you so much. No Brent the smell of your breath made you miss out on getting this jo-"

I slowly looked to my right to see a custodial staff member Mrs. Greer staring at me.

I stared back at her for a few seconds before she slowly shook her head at me disapprovingly. I faked cough a couple of times as a distraction before dismissing myself.

Office assistants and Interns of all rankings rushed throughout the busy floor.

Phones ranged in a rhythmic pattern, while others typed away on their computer keyboards making it the heartbeat of the 7th floor.

Carlos, a former college student, looked up from his cubicle and smiled. Carlos is the ears, mouth, and eyes of this building. He knows everything that takes place here. Scaling from broken marriages to late-night hookups in the office.

Rumor has it that he has personal files on everyone including the boss's boss with the addition of juicy information that can get you a promotion or 'thank you, for your services'.

"Well, Good morning captain super-nerd. I hope you received the email I sent you yesterday."

I chuckled in response as I approached him.

"Remind me why I haven't tried to get you fired yet."

He shrugged his shoulders in a nonchalant manner.

"Either no balls or vagina. I'm still trying to figure you out Robo-dork."

"You know what? I'm not even going to further this pointless conversation with you weeny, so please go back to doing that one thing you seem to suck at." I retorted before walking away.

"And what is that?" He yelled after me.

"Your job," I answered under my breath.

-----------

After making it to the conference room I quietly entered and sat down in a chair close to the door. You know just in case I need to take a victory lap around the building. Not everyone gets to say that they received an email telling them that the freakin Mufasa of their job wants to speak with them especially as an intern.

Soon Mr. Wu, the head honcho, and several other coworkers including Mrs. Stevens entered the room. She looked over at me and smiled. I returned the gesture and pulled out my journal and diary

"Ah, Miss. Wright nice to see you. I have some important news to inform you on."

Here it goes Moná promotion in. One. Two. Three
