I wake up and my wife is gone. But I hear her bustling around in the bathroom. I stretch and get out of bed, pulling on a pair of jeans and a t shirt. I knock on the bathroom door.

"Britt? Are you in there?" I ask.

Something hits something else, and brittany answers. "Yes! I'll be out in a minute!" She calls. She sounds nervous.

"Are you alright?" I ask.

"I'm fine!" She yells.

I grab the doorknob and find it unlocked. "You don't sound fine," I say, turning the knob.

I open the door and she is standing over the sink, tears on her cheeks, and breathing hard.

I slip inside, as she's only wearing my t shirt and her underwear, and shut the door behind me.

"What's the matter love?" I ask, concerned.

"Nothing." She says.

"You're lying to me." I say.

"I don't want to talk about it." She tells me.

"Is it Cameron?" I ask. "You know you won't have to see him again, right?"

Brittany rolls her eyes. "That's what everyone else said." She says.

"Well, everyone else wasn't the fucking prince, okay?" I say.

"It doesn't matter, Cody. It's Cameron. he's never going to leave me alone." She says. "But I've already accepted that. We'll be back in England soon anyway."

"Then what's bothering you?" I ask. "I'm your husband. You can tell me these things. It's what I'm here for."

"Bull shit. You're alive to run a country, and I'm just here because my mother was a broke and infertile." she says.

She storms out, leaving me confused and hurt.

I go downstairs after yelling at Cody and grab a bagel, wanting to just get out of the house.

"Hey honey," may says as she enters the room.

"Hey." I say.

"Rough morning?" She asks.

"Yeah. I gotta go. I need some time to think." I say.

"Be careful." May calls.

"Will do." I say.

I walk outside and go to the beach, my very favorite place in New York. I can't believe what I said to Cody...i don't know how to tell him.

I don't think he'll be mad. It's how not mad he'll be. He wants this.

God. I feel like a bad person. I don't know why I yelled at him like that. Why did I say all he was alive for was running his country? He'd proven he loved me. Why did I act like he was still just a business deal?

"You look like you could use a friend." Someone says.

I look and can't believe who I'm seeing.

"Frankie?!" I cry.

Frankie used to be a friend of Cameron's, but I ended up with him after the break up.

"Hey brittany." he says with a grin, sitting next to me in the sand.

"I heard you moved to England." He says.

"Yeah. I uh, met someone." I say.

"Cool. He nice?" Frankie asks.

"Yes he is." I say.

"Wanna get a bite to eat?" He asks.

"Yeah." I say. "Yeah, I do."

*****

I am pacing back and forth across the living room of May and Richard. "She just left? Without her phone? And my so called guards didn't even follow?!" I demand of no one in particular.

"Cody, honey, I'm sure brittany is fine. It's only been since this morning." May says.

"It's nearly 4 in the afternoon!" I cry.

"She's an adult, Cody." Richard says.

"And her insane ex boyfriend is out there!" I yell.

"Cameron is back?" May asks.

"We ran into him at the bowling alley yesterday." I say.

"Used to be you couldn't get her out the house for days after Cameron was around her." Richard says.

"Something else must be bothering her." May says.

I throw my hands in the air and walk to the bathroom. next the trash can, on the floor, is a positive pregnancy test.

Now I know what's bothering her.
