I cannot wait any longer. I'm going to lose my mind waiting in this stuffy room for the doctor to come out. Lucian has already called me. He said Kate got back to the castle shaken up but unscathed.

But of course.

I know it is stupid, but I can't help but to blame Kate for this. If she hadn't taken Brittany out, none of this would be happening.

I had just spoken to Collin as well. He told me to stay with Brittany at the hospital and he would take care of the shooting.

Before I can further go insane in this waiting room, a doctor steps in.

"Sir?" he asks.

I stand up and rush over to him. "Is she okay?" I demand.

"She is well. The bullet just skimmed her side, it never actually entered her body. That is good. It means she didn't need surgery. We stitched up the skin and put her under so she didn't need to feel any more stress. She needs to rest, she's been through a lot and has lost a lot of blood. I might also say the same to you, your highness." he says.

"Why did she faint?" I ask.

"Her mind had absorbed too much. She's in shock, so her mind blacked out to protect itself. She's going to be okay, that is a totally normal feature of the body." The doctor says.

It didn't seem normal when she went limp in my arms.

"Is she awake?" I ask.

"She will be soon." He says.

"I want to see her."

"Follow me."

So I do.

I wake up slowly. There is a bright light over my head, and it burns my eyes. I close them quickly.

I can hear breathing next to me, and the pain in my side is still there, though it is duller than before.

I turn my head to the side, hoping to avoid the light, and open my eyes.

The breathing next to me speeds up.

"Britt?" his familiar voice asks as my eyes adjust.

"Cody?" I reply, reaching out.

He takes my hand. "I'm here." He says.

I can finally make him out. He's sitting in a chair by my bed and he looks distraught.

That's when all the memories come rushing back.

"Brittany, love? Are you okay? Do you feel pain?" he asks.

I shake my head.

He strokes my cheek. "Don't cry love. It's all okay. No one was killed or anything. Kate made it back to Lucian. The shooter has been caught." He says.

I nod. I'm glad, I really am. But I'm still crying anyway.

"Shhh. You're okay now." Cody promises.

"I thought we were going to die back there." I whisper.

"I know. I know. I did too. That's why I was in such a hurry to get us out." He says.

"Why didn't you go?" I ask.

"What?" he asks. I've never seen him so confused.

"When I was frozen. Why didn't you just leave?" I ask.

He doesn't answer.

"And why did you wait here for me? And why are you comforting me now?" I ask.
